Thanks for the link. What a primitive site! I've used the Wayback here to post a link to the FSM's that have been taken down.

I bought one of those 1997's in fall of 1996. There were very hard to get. Our credit union had an event and a"lucky" coworker got one for 34k. One dealer told me people were following the transport trailers and trying to buy the new 4Runners right off the truck, A couple of weeks later I got essentially the same vehicle in Northern VA for 28k. My sister in law FAXED offers to a bunch of dealers for me I got a nibble. I sold my '88 4Runner for 5k less than I bought it new for and got the '97. I had internet in my office but never would have thought to shop there for a new vehicle. AOL was charging by the minute for internet in those days!
