Its my First Build Thread!!

I have never done one of these before and am excited to get started. I bought my 4Runner about 3 weeks ago and just barely have had a chance to dig in.

2000 4Runner SR5 5Spd Manual with 130K Miles

This is how she looks the day I brought her home. Dunno why shes a she, but i guess it works.

I plan on using this is a Camping/Cabin Transport so some light suspension mods are in order. I am coming from a 2007 Lexus IS 6Spd Manual so ill be doing some creature comforts as well to spruce up the cabin. Cant wait to get my hands dirty.

Fixing the Door Handle

So the Passenger side door handle was broken when i got the truck.

Was told it was an easy fix so i proceeded to break down the door using one of the guides on this forum. Thanks!

It turns out after fiddling around, the steel rod that runs along the frame had come off its guiding plastic clip. Thats it!

For my first fix it was super simple and got me motivated because of how easy it was to take apart the 4runner. Coming from the Lexus where everything was buttoned down like crazy, this thing is like playing with giant legos.

Either way, Door handle fixed and now I dont have to run around the car to open the door for the GF every time we go somewhere. A plus for me, but she seemed to like the extra attention while it lasted hah!

I also found that the bolt that helps to keep the door open/closed was missing so it would swing wide open and close by itself. I dont know the technical name and dont have a good photo of it, but its not the hinge. Either way a visit to the junk yard on a saturday morning and i found the bolt i needed off a 90's Lexus LS 400. Guy let me take it for free!

If you have never been to a junk yard, you should go with a buddy for fun. Its interesting to see where cars go to die, kinda sad actually.

Anyways, on the way home that day, i passed by a place that does wheel balancing for 30 dollars for all 4 tires. Discount tire quoted me 60, so i said why not and gave the cheap place a shot. Vibration is now gone when i pass 50mph. I do get a slight vibration after 70 and thats probably a wheels/tires/suspension issue that ill have to address once i get lifted

On a side note, i did my first full tank of gas and calculated 14.5mpg...yikes. For a V6 manual i know i should be around 18-19. Looks like a MAF cleaning, AIr Intake inspection and Spark Plug replacement is in order. I also plan on sea foaming to see how much shit shoots out the exhaust! Gets me thinking about installing a scan gauge to track mileage as well...

Fixing the aftermarket Stereo

3 posts in a row, more than ive ever posted in my entire life on any car forum hah!

The aftermarket stereo in this Truck is a panasonic with a flip down HU that gives access to the CD Player. Whomever installed it however did not measure correctly and with the console plastic installed on top of it, does not allow for the HU to drop down and gets jammed.

Decided to fix this as well until I have some funds and time to install a double din navi unit. Since the 4 Runner is a giant lego set i ripped out the center console and got to work. I used a unibit to dril out and over the mounting holes on the HU and lengthened it by about a 1/4 of an inch. This was enough to drop the HU down enough to get clearance when it flips down.

I know, the pic doesn't it show that well what I did. Ill get better at taking the step by step photos.

Anyways, Ive entered the 90's and now have access to a single disc CD Player again!

Installing some LEDs

So i have access to a bunch of LEDs from work and decided to swap some in. License Plate, Backup Reverse, and full interior.

They are not perfectly suited for the 4Runners older style of housings but the License Plate, and Backup reverse turned out really well.

The rear window button works! but only going down. Is it supposed to be able to go back up?
