TheRetrofitSource Group buy?

I believe it might depend on where you live. TRS is located in Atlanta GA. I live in Ohio...therefore, it wouldn't make any sense to mail them to California, then back to Ohio. So, he advised TRS would drop-ship them to me.

In order of easiness
mini d2s >> FXR 2.5" >> FXR 3"
I suggest you read up on it as much as you can on the theretrofitsource.com website instructions, any tutorials you can find on other forums and on here.

Essentially you take off your headlights, bake them to remove the glass, depending on which projector you use- you remove the headlight mount from inside the reflector bulb and possibly cut the reflector bowl if need be to fit the projector in there, mount it, and plug things away.

That is an extremely elementary instruction sheet that glosses over the entire project, read up on as much as you can.

BTW, I don't think 3" fx-r are more difficult than 2.5" since it is the exact same projector just with a different cosmetic lens. The 3" fits well, go with that one, the Phillips bulbs and the morimoto 35w ballasts. My shroud is the Apollo 2 and 100mm halos ($60) are a near exact fit.

Suggestion #2. Research the project using "advanced search" by clicking on the link in my signature.

put my projectors on from TRS also, i had problems with the Girl Friends car and the projectors, and they backed their products ALL THE WAY! ended up replacing them with a better set FOR FREE!

i ALLWAYS go looking at their stuff FIRST now because of my experience with them!

Those projectors look bomb, and they are nice and huge lol. Which kind did you get ? FXR 3"?

Yep. Read everything as much as possible. 4300k has the most lumen output but some prefer the more white look and go to 5000k at the loss of a little lumens and 6000k for the more blue look with even more lumen loss.

Morimoto bulbs and ballasts are quite good and sufficient for what i want to do. I believe the kits that are 25% only include morimoto ballasts with optional philips bulbs

I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Philips bulbs. The morimotos are good quality and Ihave nothing against them but in my experience the Philips have been more consistant, will be a little brighter, and will last longer. This is an OEM supplied bulb. Worth the extra coin IMO. I run them and adore them.

i bought the FXR 2.0 (was around 3 years ago), no issues with these whatsoever! and i can't describe how nice it it to actually SEE where you're going at night!



Edit: they aren't that big, it's the shrouds around them that make them look huge, it about doubles their circumference, but it hides all the working components so it looks cleaner.

Wow Rickashay!! Does the Philips bulbs really make that big of a difference? What do you mean by "more consistent"?

I like the brighter and lasting longer aspect...I guess I should go ahead and pony up the extra $33.75??

Thanks for the heads up and the information. I'm going to see if I can modify my order...hopefully it's not to late.

I've heard from several people that the philips will be closer to 4300k just as OEM toyota/lexus hids, the beam will be "more" even and maintain the cutoff longer.

I'm sticking with the morimoto 3five bulbs and hopefully if i can start to retrofit for others on campus i might order myself a pair of the philips bulbs.
 
Guh, I really want to do this, but money's too tight this go 'round. I'm vacationing on Sanibel in a few weeks, which is stressing the 'ol bank account a bit. Next time!

The Philips product will just have a better QC system in place. I've had a couple of "bad bulbs" come from TRS that I had to get warrantied immedietly. TRS has excellent customer service and getting them warrantied has never been an issue but I'm just a huge fan of the Philips. Again the TRS bulbs are still better than 95% of the Chinese ones on the market, but to me the additional reliability, performance, and bulb consistency are worth the extra money in this case.

I will soon be able to tell you about the difference first hand.

My 4runner has Phillips and den so ballasts. This weekend I'm adding morrimotto 5k + 35w ballasts to my CT-200h.

I suggested the OEM ballasts if money is not an issue. Yes you will have to seal them but its easy. They light up quicker and don't have any turn signal flicker issues.
