2010 FJ rear install.

So I've been doing some research about installing Rear FJ suspension into 3rd gen 4runners. People have said it wouldn't work. I had to find out for myself!!
I didn't find out much info so I kinda just had to wing the installation, making it take close to 12 hours, among other factors!

By chance I found a guy that works the parts dept. at our local Yota stealership, they had lifted a '10 FJ brand new and had the Shocks/Springs laying around since 2010. Got em for $100. Anyway my buddy and I went at it, he has lots of experience in the Cummins world but not so much in the Runner world. Long story short here's a few pics of the install. I also used Bilstein 5100's for a Tacoma purchased at ORW for $210 out the door.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!! And I achieved around 2" rear and 2 1/2" front.

So what did you do? You just mentioned using the rear suspension from an fj... Did it bolt right on in the back of the runner? How did you lift the front? How does it handle load? Bumps? Corners? Give us more =)

By chance do you have any other pics from the side and front? I have the same color rig and I'm close to pulling the trigger on the black de-chroming and blacking out those same rims. I like the look of yours and seeing more angles will probably cause it to get done sooner than later :D
 
I was wondering about this when I first got my runner, nice to finally see a definitive answer. This also means we can use 4th gen rear springs too I believe.
 
Important question: did you get any measurement information off of the rear shocks (mount to center mount, extended and collapsed)?

People said you couldn't use the FJ/4th gen rear shocks for a good reason; I believe I remember seeing their rear shock measurements are bottomed at least a half inch longer than when your frame-mounted bump stop engages. This stop should be your last defense against suspension damage. I believe you need to space your frame-mounted rear bump stops down at least a half an inch to avoid bottoming them out and causing serious damage.

Was this a Trail Teams FJ or standard? 4x4 or 4x2?
Are you using the front FJ springs on the Bilstein 5100's? What mount did you use (from lowest to highest)?

In the front I used 5100's for a Tacoma. It did just bolt up, it was a PITA to get the coils in but other than that it wasn't very difficult. I currently do not have any weight in the rear, I even removed the spare tire, on bumps it feels great it kinda just floats right over no problem. Corners it feels a lot tighter than stock.

I'll take more side pictures today, that was the very first thing I did to the Runner was Plastidip the Emblems and the bottom half of it. Came out pretty good, about 6-8 cans later.. The rims I kinda got lazy on, I left them on and just newspapers anything that i didn't want painted.

I didn't get any measurements before the install. I used stock coils and shocks from a 10' 4x4 FJ. I doubt it's going to bottom out, my driving consists of mostly driving to work, and weekend trips to shooting range, not very rough terrain.

So you used Tacoma 5100 fronts with the stock FJ front springs and for the rear used both stock shocks & coils from the FJ?

I have a pair of new take-off's from a 2012 FJ for the rear in my garage collecting dust because they are 15.5 collapsed and 23.5 extended. If you don't use extended bump stops you're going to eventually blow out the shocks because they're currently your limiting factor on full compression.
 
No the front is 5100's for Tacoma with stock coils. The rear is FJ coils and shocks. Sorry if I confused.. Thanks for the info, I'm going to have to get some extended ones. I heard that 99' Chevy blazers rears work very well...

Waaa?? U used rear fj springs and shock.

Front Tacoma 5100. And OEM coils. OEM 4runner coils or Tacoma?
And that gave you 2.5 inch of lift? As t what setting?

He used front Tacoma bilstein 5100s with fjcruiser springs for the front. (Do not use fj cruiser shocks on the front)

He used rear fj cruiser shocks and springs with plans to lower the bump stops.
 
Yeah in the rear is FJ. The front is Tacome 5100 on the top setting with stock 4Runner coils.

Correction*** I DID NOT use FJ coils in the front. They are stock(Semi New) 4runner coils.. Man it looks like I confused the Hell outta y'all!! Sorry!!
