Thieves broke my window.

Finished a round of golf and found this in the parking lot. They only took my wife's purse which was hidden. Lots of cameras around so hopefully someone is caught, doubtful though. I just ordered a console vault on Thursday, needless to say i wish i ordered it earlier.

Question is, is safelite a good option for this window replacement? Dealership? Any other suggestions, I live in the DFW area?

Thieves did that to my previous truck at my golf club. Took my laptop. But they were kind enough to smash only the rear quarter window instead of the larger sliding glass.
 
Make sure whoever replaces the window, removes all of the glass from the bottom of the door. At least they lost half of their auto center punch.
 
If they only took a hidden purse then they watched you hide it. Same thing happened to my wife a few years ago. They basically only do this in order to A)Get whatever cash you have and B) Use your credit card locally to buy gas or some item, usually in the first 15 minutes.

So if you want to prevent this from happening again then pay attention to the people watching when you or your wife go to "hide" the purse or something. Also those of you that have phones, Ipods, tablets or nice GPS units in plain sight you are now just a target.

Note: After talking to police and learning about this type of crime and the methodology of it we started searching the side of the roads up to a mile away from the crime. You see, my wife had two brand new pairs of prescription glasses ($1200 worth of trifocals) she had just picked up + pictures she was taking to get scanned of her grandmother. We found the purse in one of the ditches beside the road about a mile from the scene of the break in. Inside everything was still there minus her VISA credit card and about $100 in cash. Even her wallet was still in there with all her other cards.

Right after it happened, we started calling everyone and then called LifeLock. We were assured we would be fine (by LifeLock) and the only charge so far was for $75 at a gas station. The VISA people took care of that and we still have a LifeLock subscription.

Moral of the story: Watch before you hide stuff.
 
Sorry to hear OP. On my old 3rd gen 4Runner I had safelite replace the windshield and was happy with it, but it didn't quite match (color wise). Since it was our spare car (and old) I wasn't concerned. Since it's a new ride you may want OEM glass. I agree with Toyotadude88. I've used Toyota of Dallas' online site (toyotapartsales.com) and they have the best OEM prices in DFW. You could probably just then pay the service department to install it.
 
I had thieves break the same window for a diaper bag (instant karma). I replaced with OEM as the Toyota glass for that window is supposedly not as expensive as other windows are.
 
Isn't the holiday season grand? They do watch you hide your stuff. Now is the time when people even get their presents stolen.
 
Thanks for your feedback guys. I'll definitely be more aware and everything will be locked up from now on. Ill contact Toyota of Dallas tomorrow as well. Thanks again!
 
I've used Safelite for windshields and side windows… no complaints. Actually have a Safelite windshield now. OEM got cracked by passing car in all this lovely DFW construction! OEM glass is made by a third party vendor anyways. You might check with your auto insurance too. Some policies have glass only coverage with zero deductible. I would also check with local glass shops for a quote. Would be much cheaper than from the dealer. A lot of the DFW dealers will sublet the glass to a local glass company also…just be aware that if you go to the dealer doesn't mean you will be getting "OEM".

Save your money. Lifelock is utterly useless, and I'm saying this as someone who has done a lot of research into identity theft and credit card fraud. They were fined $12 million for deceptive business practices and their founder had his own identity stolen 13 times.

Let me know what you decide to go with. I work at a Dodge dealership and may be able to get you wholesale price from Toyota of Lewsiville or Toyota of Denton. Feel free to PM me.
 
I'd like to take the Pepsi Challenge on whether I or anyone else could tell the difference between OEM and any other glass out there. I'd save the money and play another round of golf and put the balance towards a new purse.

You would win. Like tires, OEMs don't make make their own glass either. It is contracted out for bid like everthing else. Your glass in 2010 could be made by a different manufacturer than is used now.
 
I ended up contacting A&M glass service. I tried buying glass for TRDparts4u and having it installed at the collision center at Toyota of Dallas, but T of D contracts out to A&M. So they will come replace it in my work parking lot, keeps the cost way down for me.

I agree. And good article. I cancelled my lifelock subscription after lifelock failed to notify me on several financial transactions which should have been reported. They did not seem to be good at "tracking" my identity until the monthly billing cycle rolled around. Very good at taking your money, poor at protecting your identity/keeping you informed...
