Mine was part of the signing and the dealer installed afterwards. LOL damn I wish I had I thought to try it before I took it in

Just learned the seat memory function in the 2014 does not adjust the mirrors, only the seat.

Haha, no kidding I actually hadn't even thought of that until you mentioned it. Of course my experience with power anything, other than windows/mirrors, is truly limited to what comes with an sr5 3rd gen.

So is this remote start something that can be activated by the dealer or were a bunch of you just lucky enough to have your dealers install them for some reason and not tell you?

In my case I had a dealer (or salesperson rather) that was ignorant. I can't speak for the others though. On my trail it was a $520 option, not one of the customized things the dealer can activate. Mine was a certified pre owned vehicle so I'm sure it wasn't this dealership that installed it, and it just got overlooked.

I have a remote starter installed by the dealer at the purchase of the vehicle. I have two FOBs that I have to carry all the time, the smart key and the remote start fob. I hoped to find out that the oem smart key could start the truck remotely, and get rid of the second fob, but after several tries, it did nothing

I had it added. They were not even advertised in San Diego and the dealer tried to talk me out of it until he heard I was heading up to wash st.

I lived in apts for the past 3 years until recently, so I used it daily during the winter months. Now that I have a garage, I rarely use it.

After discovering mine had remote start the other day (thanks to this thread!), I looked at the window sticker and it wasn't listed so it must have been a dealer add. I bought the truck used a few weeks back and the salesman had no clue. The funny thing is that I even mentioned that I'd like to have remote start to him and that I would miss it since the Subaru Outback I was trading had it (simply hoping for a little negotiating power). He didn't check or hesitate but instead rattled off numbers I could pay to add one with them. :-D They sold this truck new... you would think they would have checked/known, but then again nothing surprises me with some of the sales people I've run across. Though I need to say, I did have a good experience with this particular dealer & salesman. Hopefully a few others with discover they have it as well.

The compass was set to zone 10 the whole year I've owned it.

Dealer didn't know what zone we are in (5/6) and didn't know how to change it (hold down mode).

If you have the smart key, you can simply grab the driver's side door handle to unlock just that door. If you want to unlock all the doors, simply:



1. Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF.

2. When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, press and hold the unlock button and then hold the lock button on the "key" for approximately 5 seconds.



You'll hear the exterior beep twice and the interior ping once. Go outside, lock your door and then test it out. WALA! All doors will unlock. Not that it isn't already but it's so much more convenient.

I have a 2014 Limited. My rig has the push button start. I generally leave the key fob in the truck and have one on me as well. I found out that while trying to close the back window from outside the 4Runner, it will not roll up if the "spare" key fob is in the truck. I have to use the button inside the vehicle. I think this is probably a safety feature to prevent you from locking the key inside.

It also shouldn't let you lock the doors at all if you leave the fob in the truck. Which is to prevent you from not securely locking your car. If you left the fob inside, anyone who touches the door handle will unlock the car and have the freedom to do what ever they please!

One of the most exciting things I anticipated when I switched from the FJ Cruiser to the 4Runner was the operable rear window. Then this window quickly became my first disappointment when I realized it drew the exhaust smell in the rear window.

I was determined I would be able to remedy the exhaust smell. I tried opening the windows and sunroof in numerous combinations with some improvements and some disimprovements. But then I finally tried pulling the SS exhaust tip off. The effect was amazing.

In my mind I have been able develop scientific explanation that would kill this thread in boredom.

But in conclusion, that SS exhaust tip was the cause of my exhaust smell being drawn in my back window. :thumb3:

I was a tad disappointed also about this. I found other combinations of windows, up/down, open/closed sunroof etc. to keep me happy.
FWIW I get the exhaust and don't have the SS tip. Some here have rerouted the exhaust with much success(out the side). Don't know why Toyota engineers didn't think of this.

Doesnt' work the way on either my SR5 or Le. Holding the unlock buttion lowers the 4 windows, not tailgate, holding lock button does not put them back up.

Same with mine on my 12 LE I asked my dealership to program the 4 door windows and the sunroof to open while pressing and holding the unlock button, but pressing lock does nothing but lock the doors.

To my best understanding, it's not suppose to work, in the US at least. I mean heavens forbid someone were to get something caught in the window while you remotely closed it. Unfortunately for us, we have to use our physical key in the key hole to close all the windows. Thank our peers who like to sue at the drop of a hat, lol. hwell:

The feature can be programmed to work in other countries, like Japan I think, not sure about elsewhere.
