Things you did not know about your 4runner

Well sure, the idea is to know when you have a much higher probability to lose traction and avoid it, that can be by adjusting how you are driving or using some other tool in the chest. Besides spinning wheels (although sometime unavoidable) trashes trails :)
Also, you can dig a hole once you spin a bit. Thus making it harder to move on even when locked. Better to engage before anything that looks a little sketchy unless you feel like you are going to want differential action. A rear locker won't hang you up too bad when you're turning. There is almost no down side unless it causes both wheels to spin and kick the rear sideways. But a front one needs to be engaged more selectively so you can still turn.

There is absolutely a downside to using your locker when you don't need it, on slick offcamber situations locking the rear will make it slip downhill

After buying my 4runner 3 months ago I found out from this thread, I don't have a remote start, no hidden compartment, but I did figure out the little light that's in between the map lights. I was wondering what that little hole was. LOL

ha exact same story for me

I did that when first got truck. Mine still shows, just not in bright green. Is yours 100% gone?
I turned mine off, and the "eco" light no longer shows. It's back on now because it simply doesn't bother me and it rarely shows up anyways because of my wheel/tire combo is so damn heavy. The green light though won't come on if you have it turned off in settings.

You do know that if you are going to be sarcastic you're supposed to use green text don't you?

ie Anyone else think all the new users from Denver are a weird bunch, beginning to think they are all the same person

Like that :D :thumb:

No sorry I did not know the protocol about the green text. I'll try harder next time.

All the persons I is are belong to me. :bounce:

Careful where you tread here. Next thing your are going to say is, "There is more than one opinion on how to do something on the internet." DON'T GO THERE!!

I can't help it. I'm an engineer. I'm trying to learn while wading through the bu||spit. Part of me hates this forum format with a passion and yearns for a wiki, where a single consolidated answer has to be hashed out through collaboration.

 and :rtfm:

Picked up my 2013 Trail in September of 2012, read the manual and played with all the controls.

Just found that when I get a text message and see a grey bar on the screen that if I go into Phone and Messages I can read incoming text messages and if I'm moving, the system will read it to me.

As I said

This may be common sense but...

If you put the parking brake on before putting the vehicle in park it does not settle backwards/forwards when you're parked on a hill.

How does one do this? I read that it has the capabilities, but I've never seen a grey bar or indication of a text message. I'm on an iPhone. I assumed this only worked with droid phones.

From your iPhone: Goto Settings/Bluetooth, identify your 4Runner Bluetooth device (mine says CarAccessorySystem) hit the blue (i) then turn on the Show Notifications slider to green.

I did this and it actually works better than you'd think. Sometimes I have a difficult time understanding the computer voice, but still...

Thanks so much for letting me know about this!

Too many pages to see if this has been mentioned yet, but the trip odometer only goes to 9999 miles before it rolls over.

I hadn't reset mine since I bought my T4R (which now has 14200 miles on it) and noticed the trip meter was at 4200.

When in sequencing mode (commonly miscalled Sport) on the transmission, of you are in 3rd gear or less and hold the shifter in the “+” position, it will skip all the way to 5th gear.

Now, since it’s a sequential shifter and not a manual, when I say 3rd gear or 5th gear, all I’m referring to is the number shown on the instrument cluster and the highest gear the trans will shift into.

AFK and enjoying my 4R TPE

At the 5,000 mile check up the dealer told me there was no way to program the fob to roll side windows down. Dumb
False. I did it myself with an ODBIII Bluetooth adapter and Carista app. Took 2 minutes. It does the sunroof too, but not the rear window.

I had mine set like that for a while. When you bend down, the fob in your pocket may be squeezed and press keys. I have come out to find my windows partway down a few times.

The small part of my brain that is OCD cleaned up the spelling, and made a few other minor adjustments. Hope to OP does not mind :)

This is a great cheat sheet for those of us that don't hit the trails every weekend!!!

Thanks for posting this, glad I read starting at the last page ;) I asked three different dealerships when I test drove the 4R and they all gave me different answers regarding the minimum speed to shift to 4H from 2H.
