Thinking about a 5th Gen T4R - Hate both chrome & plastidip

Has anyone paid to replace all of the chrome molding, door handles, grill, etc. on the '10-'13 5th gens? How much did it run you?

I would like to move over to a 4runner from my taco and put on an Icon stage __ but Im not fond of the look of these 4runners lifted with all that chrome. Looks like a lifted luxury SUV. I also can't stand the idea of "spray painting" a $25k plus vehicle. Other people might not know it didn't come that way but I will.

It looks like the trail editions, which I love the looks of, still sticker in the high 30s used which puts them out of my price range.

Isn't Chrome part of the premium package in the US? If you hate the chrome that much, maybe you should consider a Canadian SR5. They more or less look like a Trail.

I don't see why you are worried about painting some of the small bits of trim black.... It is just plastic and will look factory if done right.

The only thing I would worry about painting and looking like crap is the door handles, since they will get lots of abuse.

You can buy color coded ones or flat black trail ones for about $170.

Going to full trail trim is pretty darn expensive. Like $2k+ expensive. Not worth it in my opinion. You have replace a ton of stuff since the trail plastics (bumpers, flares, rockers) are all slightly different shapes. And they will need to be painted to match the car in several areas. All said and done you would be in for at least 2500 maybe 3k.

Unfortunately, the '10-13 SR5s all came with the chrome bits in the US, regardless of trim. There is no visible difference in the SR5 and the LE other than the wheels and model badges on the C pillar. Many of us have been envious of the Canadian SR5s up to the refresh.
