Thinking it's time

Even with 230k I am still enjoying my black 02 SR5 but I am thinking it may be time to start looking for a new T4R. Right now I am thinking about a 14 Trail "Premium" that stickers about $42k. What % discount can I negotiate for a new vehicle?

Also, how far from the back of the back seat to the inside of the back gate and side to side? I have two pretty big dogs that are constant companions and I am concerned there may be less space than in my 02.

I can only help you with one of your questions/concerns - the space issue. The 5th Gen is a bigger vehicle then the previous generations. If you have enough room now, you will have enough room going to the 5th Gen.

The size of the vehicle is what got my attention. Nice to see a model getting bigger, not smaller.

If I remember correctly from building my drawer for 2 dog crates I put in the back of my 5th gen, you're looking at 39" between the wheel wells and 37" from the back seat to inside the tailgate and 30" of vertical. It's been a little while so don't quote me on it but the crates are 36" L, 23" W, and 26" H. They have to be staggered a bit (why I built the drawer) because the lips you bolt the top and bottom together overlap. Thanks for the replies so far (really appreciate your post g8rb8). This is what troubles me about the new T4R's; my 02 is 14-years old with 228k miles. I have a hard time believing that a new T4R, with all of the electronics and touch screen functionality, will still be functioning in 2026.

Oh, I get that. Think of it this way: in 1988 people were still listening to cassette, even though a few pioneers were into CD's; cell phones were the size of bricks (at least the ones that didn't come in a bag); and touch-tone phones had finally caught on. Tech has changed dramatically and far too many things are not considered disposable. Just concerned that I'll spend >$35k for a vehicle based on an operating system that hasn't been updated for years.

No, I hear ya! I just couldn't resist pulling your chain just a tad...lol. But you're right, seems like we do rely on too much tech (some for the better, probably some for the worse).
