Thinking of trading in my Landcruiser for a 5th Gen

Here's a pic of my 4th Gen with our LX470.. Love the rig just seems like overkill anymore for just the 2 of us.. Plus she drives her WRX back and forth to work which I just don't feel comfortable with.. Scared she's gonna hit a deer in that little thing..

Been tryin to talk her into just trading both her Rex and the Lexus in for a new 5th Gen.. Like I said it's just us 2 with our 14 year old daughter.. Also was gonna ask if its possible to get an SR5 with 3rd row seating.. Thnx again..

I don't recall anyone trading there LC for a 4Runner, although I know we had a few go the opposite direction.

My thoughts:

-You don't mention how SHE feels about this. I wouldn't "talk her into" this - she needs to be onboard.

-How is the LC overkill, and a 5G not? Is it paid for?

-When, and what, will the 14 YO be driving?

-Yes, the 5G can have a 3rd row, but you should try it out for size. And why, with just 3 of you?

EDIT: If she LIKES driving that WRX, make dang sure she test-drives the 4R a lot - it's gonna seem a slug to her.

You don't say that you've driven and taken a very close look at a 5th. If you haven't, don't say you like it til you do.

I actually have. Wasn't crazy about the engine but I liked the comfort and look..

We actually do . But it's not alot. Anyways my 4th gen has the same V8 the Cruiser does.. I don't know Im still up in the air on this one.

If it were me I would sell the land cruiser outright and keep the WRX and 4th gen, with the plan to upgrade the 4th to a 5th at some point.

Very valid point and same one the wife makes.. Truth is the only one that isn't paid off is the WRX which is my wifes daily. I'm gonna have to sit back and really think about this. The Runner is my baby but i'm starting to think if I do a few mods to the hundy I would probly reconsider. Thing rides great but i've been hesitant to modify it for the sake of comfort. We mostly use it for vacations but now that my 2 oldest sons are in college we find ourselves using it less and less. Anyways I'm gonna talk it over with her and see what she thinks. Everyone is making some very good points. Thnx:nod:

If I could find one of those LX570s in good working condition and I could trust the history of it I would drop my 5th gen like a hot rock for it. I think my V6 is still out of breath after driving it up a hill to work this morning hahaha. You would regret this decision imo.

Interesting, I recently decided to sell my '12 Trail - was looking to take my equity and get a used Land Cruiser or Lexus Lx 470. Just listed it in the Classifieds section.

I never have driven the LX 470 but have heard a lot of great reviews!

If you're not happy with the engine now then you never will be unless you lower your expectations as many tend to do. It won't improve over time like a vintage wine.

The novelty of comfort and look will wear off fast if you don't completely enjoy (and even look forward to) driving it.

Don't do it unless you are 100% happy.

100% agree but sometimes the rest of the vehicle is so fun that it makes up for the crappy engine. My case with my Jeep, it's a 2.5L but I look forward to driving it everyday and always check the weather to see if the doors come off.


Oh and keep the LC/LX unless it starts becoming unreliable or expensive to own.

All good points fellas. Appreciate the responses. To be honest im starting to think once i just go ahead and break its modded cherry its gonna be that much more enjoyable like my runner is. Seems my wife loves the WRX like i do my runner so its looking like were keeping them. Fact its also paid for and only has 77k miles doesnt hurt either lol.. oh and for the record im not dogging the V6 in the new runners. It just seems like its too much truck for that engine. Power to weight situation. Should have kept the V8 option available.. other than that their awesome imho..
