Hah, this is pretty funny because I remember seeing the ad for this truck a couple weeks ago. As soon as I saw the aftermarket grill, I knew something was fishy about it. Your post just confirmed my suspicions!
Are you only looking for 4runners in the 100Kish range? I wouldn't hesitate to buy one with 200K, as long as it has been serviced.
Yeah, that is what I thought too but wanted to see in person since I just LOVE Anthracite - Supra owner here and wish I could get an Anthracite supra, too. One day. Black for now.
I looked at stuff up to 200K. There was a 2002 sport Thunder cloud in Overland Park with 167K and I put a deposit on it sight unseen as it was a one owner and was headed to go get it and they called saying they sold it to someone else. I was SO mad, I would've paid more, too. It was listed for $7100. Then another 02 Sport Thunder Cloud popped up in Lenexa and I called on it, had 178K and it was sold within minutes. I even have alerts set up. Anyways, you can check out my crazy story on trying to buy a 4runner for the past few months here. Ended up getting a 15" Trail Premium. Supposed to come in today.
wow... that's a clean runner...It's a shame about the carfax. Did the carfax backup the mileage claim? That's not very many miles for a car that was driven for 14 years before being totaled. Although it certainly is clean enough.
I love that color combo it's sharp. I don't know if I have ever actually seen one that color in person.
If I checked it out thoroughly and found it to be sound, the washed title wouldn't bother me too much. It's really just a technicality. Besides, If you plan to keep it forever, what difference would it make? I'm sure there have been other cars banged up much worse and not totaled. It really all boils down to the actual condition of the vehicle.
That is a big bag of money though...I got my 99 SR5 for 4k cash it had almost 150k on the clock but was in immaculate shape...
BTW...you can't trust those timing belt stickers...unscrupulous dealers know that most unknowing types will ask about the timing belt. so they will fake the sticker showing the belts been done. I would need to see an actual receipt for the work, or inspect the belt myself.
I personally wouldn't pay that much for that truck. Having said that, I'm sure somebody will...
Man, It does look astoundingly clean...
It was super clean, you could tell it was a low mileage. The Carfax did support the miles, too. It basically sat for a while after it was totalled at 80K range. I was still willing to buy it since I explained earlier that it was totalled in 2011 so it wouldn't take as much damage to total it. Insurance just reviews the estimate of repairs vs the cost of the vehicle and usually around the 70% mark total it out. So it's VERY likely this did not have frame damage and from my review it didn't. The fenders and hood were the original VIN and they were not damaged so it's clear that the front impact was to the bumper and headlights. My main concern was the vibration over 60MPH since even a knock can mess up alignment and never repair 100%. But, he was unwilling to budge on the price so that was a no go. Sadly, he will dupe someone because the title is clean in Missouri as long as they don't check carfax.
$8700 for a salvage title 4Runner.
Is it even the same engine, did you check the vin #s around the car?
It clearly was put back together on the cheap because it doesn't look original.
I'd think it to be with like $3500 given the bad title. It is a salvage after all.
yes, same engine but could potentially be a new radiator. VIN was all around even the front fenders and hood, which leads me to again believe that the front impact wasn't extreme, it was totalled because of the value vs repair in 2011. It's an 11 year old car at this point so it won't take extreme damage. But, not knowing where it was repaired and what exactly was wrong with it is scary. Tried to get him to come down to 4K and he wouldn't take less than 8K. So yeah, no go right there.
This one has had the title "cleaned" so I doubt you'd run into any issues getting it tagged. Technically it doesn't have a salvage title anymore. It only shows up on the Carfax and it's not likely they'd dig that deep into it.

Yes, because the title is clean it will not be an issue registering it/tagging it. Arkansas is notorious for washed titles. I actually ran into the same thing on an 04 I tried to buy last month in Missouri. Gotta be careful. It sucks, all states are different laws and there are ways to take a salvage vehicle and retitle it clean in another state.

My concern wasn't titling it, or that it was salvage really considering the info I have presented. BUT the fact he wouldn't come down on the price is what I walked away from. I could easily drive this thing for years and not worry about resale if the price was right regardless of the salvage history on Carfax. Now, if it was totalled earlier in it's life then I'm more concerned because that means more severe damage.
