My next door neighbor was the first to come onto the scene of this 3rd gen and dial 911. (09/09/12 about 9:30am on I45 near Madisonville, TX).

Right rear tire blew and the truck flipped twice. 2 women passengers in the front, and a 3 year old girl in the rear driver's side. One broken arm, and the rest were cuts and bruises. Glad to see they all walked away.

Impressive they came out ok. I was wondering how these hold up in accidents since I have 2 sons that are 3 and 4. They seem safer than my cherokee, but im sure anything that rolls 3 times is going to look pretty bad like the one shown
 
Wow! What a wreck, and a miracle everyone came out virtually unscathed compared to the other possible outcomes.

Any details on what caused the accident?
 
WOW.. That is right up the road from me..Glad everyone is OK. I saw a runner the other day that had tires on it that was slicker than snoot and was thinking ,they are going to have a blow out and be in trouble..Keep good tires on your ride, it is better than the alternative.
 
driving in north Texas and throughout the state scares me; while out and about every workday, I probably come across 3 or 4 wrecks per week, often arriving first on scene, and many times I witness accidents actually occurring while traversing the metroplex's interstates...
 
Makes you think twice about those quick trips and you dont put your seatbelt on... eh I'm guilty of it..

Glad no one was seriously hurt.
 
Thank goodness they are OK. I love our Runners because of all the steel surrounding the rear passengers. Have two little boys, and chose an old Runner over a new Yaris or Golf or Fit.

Yeah i gotta stop this one. I find every excuse. 'Oh im just going down the street for gas then hoping out' , 'Oh now i have gas? No need for a belt im just going a few blocks' You really dont ever know, and its true that majority of accidents happen fairly close to home. I can testify to this truth
 
That my friends is the biggest reason we should be paying more attention to our driving and less to smart phones, make-up (not that you guys wear it :) ), the radio etc.. I drive a tractor trailer for a living and have been witness to a lot of bad wrecks, similar to this one and worse! It only takes a split second for something like this crash to happen. The more attention paid to the road, the more time the driver has to respond to a situation like this. Let's all get from point A to point B safely.

And speaking of how safe the 4Runner is... well, first off, I own a '99 (and love it) and wouldn't bash 4Runners on this forum, but you have to consider if a regular car or station wagon would have simply spun out under the same circumstances as what led to this crash. High-speed stability has to be a factor when talking about how safe a vehicle is.

Anyway, glad everyone in that 4Runner is relatively OK... looked like a bad wreck, especially for the front passenger.
 
I rolled my first 4Runner about 3 minutes away from home. Decided I would save time and hook up my faceplate and plug in my phone while I was on the road. Didnt work.

Glad to see everyone was ok. These seem to be pretty safe vehicles to flop, although I wouldnt recommend it.
