I have a field monitor in my 97 4Runner but it is missing the OAT sensor. Would you happen to have a part number for it so I can order one? The previous owner never installed one.

It's hard to get an original OAT sensor that came with the FMU but you can get a OAT from a mid 90's Subaru forester. Those you can order from the dealership..... I think. I don't have a part number for it though
Edit: [MENTION=107222]HiLife[/MENTION] I got mine off of ebay. Search up a seller called jdmnz he gets one every now and then. He used to have a website but that shut down that's where [MENTION=57546]4-Ripcord[/MENTION] got his.

I think in his first post of the fmu install (#62?) the part numbers are listed. And there is no way that I know of to change the temp to Fahrenheit.

I don't think so. The country's that these are in don't use Fahrenheit, so I don't think that was an option. If you want Fahrenheit try finding one from a Subaru.

I know this thread is older but wanted to check if anyone has tried to use the Suby adjs to change the 'Measurement Unit Selection' - it shows how to change from US to Canada to Japan - US temp selection displays in F. I searched alot but did not see where anyone had attempted this adjustment to the Toyota FMU.
Has this been tried / debunked or has anyone been able to change from C to F for the Toyota units?
Hopefully a gamechanger for alot of current FMU owners?!

Hmmm interesting, I haven't seen this sheet before. I'll give it a try in an hour once I take lunch
Edit: I think that actually might be for Subaru units, given the display shows a car and not an SUV, and if the FMU was never intended for the American market I don't see why it would have a setting for it, but I'll still give it a shot in a few
Update: my suspicions were correct, it does not work with the Surf FMU

I recently bought a '99 Intercooler Hilux Surf that came with an owner's manual in english. There are a couple of pages on the field monitor and changing the temp. scale isn't an option. At some point I will upload what info there is to this thread.
Thanks for checking - that's unfortunate - although both boxes made by Jeco - was hoping that would work perhaps. Good that you checked.
I guess its possible if some EE were to break open both boxes to find what tweaks were necessary to add that functionality to the Toyo boxes but not an engineer here.

Since someone breathed new life into this thread....
The 99+ 4Runners come with an ambient air temp sensor which you can find mounted to the bottom of the rad support near the DS front turn signal. It's a small black plastic "box" with two wires attached. Should be easy to find in any import pick - n - pull if you have a pre-99 Runner.
Alternately you can get a generic one like this:
Standard(R) AX57 - Intermotor™ Ambient Air Temperature Sensor
I priced a new OEM one (in Canada) and it was over a hundred bucks. Found one in a local part-out For $5.
Just tap the two wires from that sensor to the two wires in the field monitor harness (solid blue, yellow/black). Polarity doesn't matter.
FWIW a few years ago I stumbled across a way to convert the imperial temp display to metric in my Infiniti G35 by rerouting a ground wire in the digital display, but I'll be darned if I can remember exactly what I did. I'm certain these parts are manufactured with both scales within the electronics, so if you're willing to poke around you may find a way.

I would be extremely, very surprised if that was the case. I see absolutely zero reason why a unit would measure in standard/imperial as well when it was never once offered nor intended for markets where such a scale is applicable
North American market is and has always been a major (if not the upmost) consideration for Infiniti so it would make sense there's a unit that is compatible for both America and Canada. To that effect just because something works on a Nissan product I wouldn't expect it to work on a Toyota product, even if it was manufactured by the same company like the Subaru/Toyota FMU
IF there's even a ground wire to "re-route", as I'm nearly positive the FMU houses a circuit board. Nor do I see how re-routing a ground cable to another ground position would change a thing, let alone how the readout receives and displays information - it's either grounding out or it's being shorted out. Simply put, ground is just a safety net. It carries no current unless a malfunction occurs.
