My 89 V6 4Runner finally died after 250K miles. I bought it new in the fall of 1988. So just got my 04 V8 Sport and found this forum. Anyway, I too think the stock exhaust is too quiet as many have stated. But the Borla sounds too loud. How about the TRD cat back? Is it quieter than the Borla? According to Toyota they are NOT made by Borla. Has anyone compared the two? Is there any exhaust system that growls at idle and off the line but is fairly silent at freeway speeds? Thanks for any help for a forum newbie.

According to my Toyota dealer, the 03 - 04 V6 and V8 have the same exhaust.

thanks. hopefully they're not too loud. i listened to some sound clips on the magnaflow website. they didn't have the 4runner sound, but the sound varies from truck to truck. for example, the exhaust sounds pretty wussy on the nissan frontier and the jeep cherokee, but sounds mean on the tahoe. i love the borlas because of the split side exits, but from what i've heard about the droning, i don't think i'd be able to put up with it.

I'm still trying to figure out if the magnaflow will clear my rear bumper guard, which I posted in another thread, here's the pic anyway, what are your thoughts Z06??

From my understanding the Magnaflow sticks out the side, way before your bumper guard even goes. You should have no problem what-so-ever.

I think you all overpaid for Borlas, and even Magnaflow. Flowmaster has 4 different sound levels to suit your taste - and the typical performance gains. I had mine installed for $350. And that was on the high end - most installers will do it for $300.

IMHO, you get what you pay for. I like the all stainless exhaust and don't particularly like the sound of Flowmaster. I guess I've gotten used to the Corvette tax on parts, $475 on a full stainless catback exhaust system doesn't bother me in the least.
