Those with JBL systems - What have you done for direct replacement speakers?

I know there are threads on direct fit speaker upgrades, but they mostly focus on the non JBL systems. Buried in them there may be some comments from those with JBL, but I thought I ask specifically for those with JBL. I have seen a thread with JL Audio 3.5” put in dash with good results.

I am looking into replacing my head unit to a Kenwood Excelon and considering changing the speakers also. But I am not going to add amps and make mods to fit speakers.

I just did the tweeter/dash replacement in my 2010 LE (JBL equipped) yesterday. It was badly needed!

I used the JL Audio C2-350x (3.5in) speakers. They sound incredible!

You’re going to have to chop the factory adaptor off and crimp standard speaker connectors on in order to complete the install. The adaptors I’ve seen online are focused on the door speakers and will not work on the tweeters (I didn’t know that when I bought them).

The front passenger side speaker area is too small to make a decent bracket, I used zip ties and it seems to work fine.

The non-JBL wiring setup is made so the front door speakers are run off of the tweeters, that is not the case with JBL.

Did you notice drastic improvement with change in head unit only? I will be changing my head unit and thought to upgrade the OEM dash and door speakers at same time for more improvement. Maybe the OEM sub while still using the OEM amp. I am not going to install aftermarket amp and run wiring. Those days are over for me. Not looking for killer system, just improvement with a change in headunit.

Lol. True. Use the back window everyday this time of year to bleed off the heat of summer when getting in.

Sorry, I did it all at once. The dash speakers are different from non JBL speakers though. Used Maestro RR module to integrate into OEM amplifier.

LE Speaker replacement

I replaced my dash and front door speakers with a Memphis Audio Component Set. Tweeters in the dash, 6x9 in the doors. I also sound matted the front doors at the same time. Replaced the stock Sub with a shallow mount Pioneer and a dedicated amp for the sub with the knob control mounted in my dash. I have been very pleased with these additions and the only other thing I might add is to replace and sound mat the rear doors. Only thing to note with replacing any stock speakers is that the stock speakers are like 2.3 ohm so when you replace them with 4 ohm speakers, it takes a little more volume to get the sound to where I want it.

Those are 4 ohm speakers and the factory ones are 2 ohm. Did you notice a significant decrease in volume?

I used Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X2C 2.5-Inch Mid Range Factory Replacement Car Speakers, 120 Watts Max Power (Pair) and transferred the brackets, i usedRED WOLF Car Dash Tweeter Speaker Wiring Harness Compatible with Toyota Tundra 2007-2021, 4Runner 2003-2020 for OE Part No. 86160-AE010 Install Aftermarket Front Dash Speaker Wire Cable Plug connectors they clip right in , you only need to splice if you want to add the included(bass filters) which I did, can't think of correct name. Even then the main connectors aren't spliced. Just installed in 15min sounds great

I just put OEM JBL tweeter in when mine slowly died. In other Toyotas with JBL I had swapped dash tweets for varying speakers-Infinity, etc. The resistance and sensitivity won't match the OEM system, either will the tonal balance. May not bother some, bugged me-hence why I just bought a OEM JBL tweeter and now it sounds as good as it did new-which is just mediocre lol. But it's balanced and sounds good enough.
