Thoughts on '00 Ltd w/e-locker

For some reason, it looks like it has been repainted. Could just be the pictures. The front bumper is a bit misaligned... but it all looks fixable. Check the body/frame closely for signs of repair.

I've been thinking that the lighting is making the paint look a little confusing. In some of the pics it looks like Millenium Silver and some look Desert Dune. The Oak interior makes me think Desert Dune. I see the slight ding on the passenger side lower bumper. My buddy at a Toyota dealership is getting me the full Carfax and any SVC records available to him. Hopefully it's gonna be as described. Looks like a clean, unmolested truck to start with.

Looks like Mil. Silver to me. Seems it might just be strange lighting? I see what Charlie is saying, though. Rear liftgate looks like it might be a slightly different color. I think if everything looks straight and you get no red flags on the info from your buddy you've found a pretty clean rig!
 
Looks clean. I'm in austin and can go look it over for you if you want (no I don't need another 4runner!). :cowboy:
 
I didn't notice the paint difference until Charlie said something. Now that I went back and looked at it again, I definitely notice it.

Hopefully its just the lighting and it wasn't in some kind of accident. Shit, even if it was, as long as it wasn't anything major and the paint really doesn't look as different as it does in the picture, I'd buy it.

It looks very clean. Sweet find!
 
Pics 4 & 5 look Mil Silver to me. The others are ambiguous or look DD to me. I'll stick my neck out and put my fake internet money on Desert Dune:naughty: I had a trailer coupler put a bad wrinkle in the cargo door of my '97 and replaced and painted it. It took the PPG paint shop several batches to get the match dead on. Assuming the seller is being honest, I think the multiple gradients of light in the pics could easily make it look different from different angles. I guess we'll see.

Bumper is mis-aligned and the hood has either been replaced or repainted, color doesn't match. Just pay extra attention to the front end and take a peek under the bumper to make sure it's not bent to pieces down there. It's been in an accident, but could have just been minor.

My bumper is also mis-aligned but no major accidents recorded on the carfax/title.

That's what winked at me! I didn't notice that color difference consciously. The front bumper has been disassembled, at least - it is missing the rubber gasket between the lower plastic section and the upper metal section. The headlight filler panel is also misaligned on the driver's side. So, best guess is: Missing impact beam, replaced core support, headlights, grill, bumper and hood. Original fenders. Front bumper mounts are probably bent a bit, causing the bumper misalignment.

It's Silver not DD, you know how I know...I own one of each. :flypig:

You cant judge body panels on the internet. Lighting, different angels, camera flash etc. You have to go see it in person. It looks like it could be a winner! Good Luck!

My buddy just sent me the complete Carfax. The first almost six years have every single recommended dealer service........in Illinois.....:moping: The next ten years are in Tennessee w/almost no SVC records. The last two years are in Texas w/a few SVC records. No REPORTED accidents or issues, but the Illinois time makes me a bit nervous. I'm supposed to get undercarriage and engine pics tomorrow. The plan was to drive out (rental) tomorrow night, look at/pick it it up Saturday morning, and drive back Saturday/night. I'm wondering if I should push it back a day until I see the pics. Twelve hours (each way) is a long drive to look at a potentially crusty truck.

Sounds like a good plan. That's a long trip for a crusty frame. If they dont send pics dont bother.

I usually look at the wheel center hubs and door sills for rough indicators also. Door latch hardware always seems to be a good reference too. One minor point in it's favor (as pointed out by my Toyota dealer buddy) was that at least the years in Illinois were its early years when it still had fresh factory undercoating.

My Limited spent it's first 3 years in CT & then the next 15 in TN & it's in great shape. Good luck!
 
Sadly, my wife just noticed a pretty good ding in the upper rear corner by the window seal on the passenger side. Hard to tell from the pics, but it almost looks like the dent and a bit of the trim may have been painted. I'm starting to get the that sketchy feeling.
