Threaded holes on frame rails

My 2014 TE came without any step or rock rails. Nosing around underneath I notice a pattern of bolt holes on the frame rail with a threaded insert. What is the thread gauge (presumably metric}? And are these holes there for the dealer installed step rails?

Some of the treaded holes are used, some sticknuts are used (at least for the bolt on Shrockworks sliders). Not sure about OEM running boards because I never had any ....

All factory side steps/running boards for Toyota's mount to the body of the vehicle; some of these bolt holes may be covered by undercoating and/or stick-on covers.

The threaded portions in the frame rails are typically M8x.125 nuts and are for various accessories and/or equipment that may or may not be available for your vehicle trim, model, area, ect. The T150 platform the 5th gen uses is shared by the GX460, Land Cruiser Prado, and 4Runner/Hilux Surf.

Not sure if this will be of any help but I removed the dealer installed running boards (OEM??) from my 2014 TE. They attach not to the frame per se but at six attach points per side at the unibody rocker panels. Not sure about my terminology but here are some pics of my running boards and 4 of the 6 attach points on one side.

You are also correct. My Trail came unadorned. I ordered a set of Nfab step bars and that is the location they use. Mine even had filler bolts already in them, but I used the ones that came with the Nfabs.

Thanks for the replies. At this point I don't intend to us them for attaching any type of rail system. But I do intend to plug them and was most curious as to the thread size.

After removing my OEM roof rack and running boards in preparation for a full wrap I went to Toyota and purchased "shortie" filler bolts, quantity 8 for the roof rack and quantity 12 for the running boards, two bucks a pop (what a rip) and installed them with Permatex clear RTV to prevent water infiltration until I decide how I'm going to proceed.
