throttle body gasket messed everything up!!

Yea the only hose i took off was the one connected to the intake and then i loosend the 4 bolts on the TB than i loosened those 2 14" nuts we talked about earlier than i just took it off. with the gasket im pretty sure its on right, it only looked flush one way. But ya today after a nice cold snow storm i started it up everything sounded good no delays, I shut it off and turned it back on and it had trouble starting but finally i got it and it seemed sluggish for a bit while i gave it some gas. but it ran fine after that. I think i notice a huge difference in power. it sounds cleaner and feels like it made a difference. just this darn little delema.
So my computer is just probably trying to adjust itself to the new air flow? i added the PowerCore filter too which takes in the air a little different than the regular cone filter. so i wonder if those 2 combined maybe threw it off?? so will pulling my ecu fuse will basicly reset it?

okay so break this turbulant flow thing down for me, is it bad to not have it? personally i kind of like the way it runs now when its running right of course lol! it feels a lot different to me

fuel mixes better and ignition flames propagate more completely under turbulent conditions in your motor, it really doesn't make a hill of bean on our 180hp 3.4liter v6's but if you are building a high horsepower drag motor or whatnot intake airflow characteristic are a big deal, we are better off getting a little extra air into our motor with a little less effort than we are being concerned with the consistency or our fuel to air mixture, long story short dont worry about it
 
i would not really say that the D shaped gasket causes turbulence, but it sure causes a little bit of a restriction, but like you said it isnt gonna make a whole lot of difference in our 180hp motors. maybe 1hp(if we are lucky)

oh yea definitely wasn't claiming turbulence, I'm sure it is just a back pressure thing to keep the intake noise down or something
 
dang is that all they got is 180? wow that sucks. doesn't the 4 cylinder celica gts have around 180? anyway thanks though guys

still have problems on the cold start and go's i cant see any loose wires or hoses where i was working. ive looked real hard. im gonna try and pull the ecu fuse, it looks like there are 2 ecu fuses, one is ecu a ignition and the other one is just ecu b. im asuming i should pull the b? and this wont mess things up electronicly will it?

edit: maybe the gasket could be on wrong, i was feeling around the TB. does everyones gasket barely stick out on the corners?

I saw one a few days ago towing a whole trailer home, at least a 20 footer

I was in shock, I almost took a picture

wish i did

but he was going slower than my dog lol

But 5000 lbs isn't bad. If you own a large boat or anything, yeah you'll need a stronger vehicle but I just use my Runner to tow flatbed trailers which is convenient.
 
ya the celica doesnt have the "all " the fun and potential a Runner has.
so heres an update, i took my TB apart again, stripped a nut in the process and i think i switched the gasket around, also the Thottle cable... it looks like it could be twisted when you loosen the 2 nuts, could this may have caused the delays? the delays arnt that bad any more. there still seems to be a sliight delay in the mornings. but ya everything seems like its back to normal. its wierd though, im 99.9% sure that my exhaust sounded louder and i had more power with the backwords gasket (if it was backwords) im serious though it just seemed to just take off when i put on the gas. could this be true? maybe a new mod? "The Backwords O Gasket" lol! but i just thought thats the result of the O instead of the D, if you dont mind the cold engine delays :bigok:
