Throttle Body on 01 4Runner

Hey guys,
I just picked up an 01 4Runner 3.4. 222k miles and in great shape. Recently ive been having an issue with low rpms and sometimes it will stall on me when going from reverse to drive. When i go to start the truck i have to give it a small amount of throttle for it to fire up. Im thinking it might be the IAC problem. Possible some buildup there. Havent had the time to take it apart. Its had a recent tune up so i know its not that.

My question is, did i hear or see that the IAC's on 96-00 are different than 01+ ? Are the IAC's built in and cannot be replace without replacing the entire TB? If so, and my problem is indeed a bad IAC that will not run better after i attempt to clean it, can i swap my TB out with one from a 00? Im hoping to be able to take it apart this week when work slows down.

Yes that is true that you need to replace the whole throttle body. And you wouldn't be able to switch to older style throttle body because the 01-02's are drive by wire and it wouldn't work. I do have a used 01-02 throttle body for sale in the classifieds if you end up wanting to replace yours.

It actually came with the supercharger I got. And since I don't have an 01-02 I don't need it.

So i pulled my TB off this morning, hoping there was some way i could get to clean the IAC but theres no way to do so. So then how would i know if it is indeed my TB that has to be replaced and not something else causing the low rpms and the need for throttle to start up? Id hate to blow $125 for nothing

So i cleaned as much as i could of my throttle body. Installed it back in and it starts without needing throttle. idles much better (for now) but when i drive it and really hammer the throttle it seems like there is lag. Even though i have the pedal to the floor, it doesnt get up to high rpms and has inconsistant acceleration. Im not throwing any codes so i dont know where to go from here. does any of this sound familiar?

I would take the intake pipe off so you can see the throttle body valve and turn the car all the way on but do not start. Move the throttle by hand and see if the valve responds. I would bet from your discription that it will not open untill you hit the last 1/4 of rotation.

Thanks for the reply. If you are right, are you saying it would be the TPS? Or am i looking at replacing the whole TB?
