This past weekend my suspension got progressively worse and by the end of my trip the front passenger shock was dead. By Sunday on my drive home it thumping over every bump so I automatically think blown shock and I brought it in to the mechanic to look at.
They had the vehicle all day and when I go to pick it up they said that they test drove it and felt the thumping, put it on the lift and checked it over every thing was tight and the shock wasn't leaking. But advised me that I needed 2 new front shocks.
Next day, I dropped it off to another mechanic that I have used for a long time. He did his thing drove it, felt it, lifted it, checked it... then he rotated the tires, made sure everything was tight and called and told me that he knows that there is a problem, but didn't advise me to change the shocks out because it could be a loss of money if that wasn't the problem and I could end up chasing my tail.
So I have 2 different opinions, one wants $1200 for two front shocks and a wheel bearing that "will cause me problems down the road" and the other one who basically said hold off until you can diagnosis it better or just start replacing things until it goes away.
Now reading up on the forums, I am also thinking that it could be the sway bar bushing or control arm bushing. Is there an easy way to rule those out?
The truck is a 06 Sport Edition with 74,000 miles on it.
