The only time I ever get speeding tickets is when driving through Texas for some reason. Flat + boring + Texas Panhandle = ticket.
None of these in the 4R yet though. I am used to driving an MR2 so the 4R tends to "sneak" up to speed without me realizing it. Better use the cruise control next time I drive it to go visit family.

Oh, the younger years... Now I get passed by a Prius and my ego stays in tact.

I guess that day will come.. Till then unless I have my parents in the car I won't get passed by any eco vehicle without revving to 5k and atleast trying to pass them.

I'm with [MENTION=68576]Brian757[/MENTION] ...I'm glad those days are behind me... Previous to my 4runner I had a Trailblazer SS on a 150 shot of nitrous and a ton of other mods and previous to that I had a 5.3l shortwide chevy on a 200 shot of nitrous with every other goodie in the book... Over the years I've paid thousands of dollars in tickets and couldn't be happier to have matured past that stage and bought my T4R, which never exceeds 70mph... However, I do still have a Lexus IS350 which has seen 150mph a couple times, but more often than not the family is in it with me, so I keep it extremely tame and lame... LOL

I've had my 4Runner 6 years - one of the reasons I got it was so I can't speed. Got my first ticket (in this truck) on May 10 of this year...for expired inspection. It expired in April.

Plenty of tickets in the past in the Bimmer and IS350. Now, I too am content to let the Prius pass me.

Only ticket I got in the 4runner was a fix it ticket for tinted windows and tinted tail lights. $40 for untinted replacement glass, some goo gone to clean the tail lights, and $50 to write off the tickets.

I once drove from Sandy, UT to Ventura, CA in about 8:30. That's about 725 miles, and the time included two stops for fuel/bathroom.

So I averaged 85 MPH for the whole trip (it was the Tuesday, 09JUL, 2002 if you are curious). And for the record, a stock 4Runner can almost but not quite do 110 MPH. And it cam maintain speeds in excess of 100MPH for at least two hours. Later I learned that Southern UT is notorious for being a series of speed traps. Dumb luck on my part.

Not a single ticket in the 4Runner so far (knock on wood). I am pretty sure cars like 4Runners are effectively invisible to cops if they aren't looking for 502s.

In 15 years and 160k, no real tickets in the 4Runner. Two spycamera tix for speeding on I-95 in MD and one for red light running in DC. Also five warnings, two written, three verbal, all for speeding. It helps to be the sober (18 years), middle-aged white guy and call him "Officer". I routinely run 75-85 and am never without my radar detector (except in Virginia).

Got one last year for going 43 in a 40. The cop tried to get me for being in a school zone (25), but when I mentioned that he pulled me over 50 yards before the school zone started, he mumbled something, then mentioned I was still speeding...pretty dick move on his part.
I can see if I was going 10+ over, or if I was still going fast in the school zone, but 3 could be considered to be in the margin of error zone.
Ruined my day too...I had taken the day off, first warm day of spring, had all the windows and sunroof open, and going to buy a MTB...and this douche drops a $156 ticket on me for 3mph over.

contest it. show up. it will be dismissed. too narrow a margin to meet the standard.

valentine 1? mine saves me from about 2 real speeding tickets annually, plus several nuisance mailings from local photo vans.
The red light and photo speeding tickets are moving violations are not valid unless personally served on the driver here in colorado. They expire after 3 months.

Well normally I would have. However a few years years ago there was a new judge that took over the traffic court, and his whole deal was to weed out all the people who came in and fought tickets. A couple days before I got my ticket, there was a story in the paper about him.
If you went to fight the ticket, and lost, you were automatically assesed a $550 court fee, on top of the ticket fee. He had some record rate going for the amount of people found guilty...didn't feel like losing that battle.

Turns out, enough people complained that the judge was investigated, and reprimanded for abuse of court or something like that...

There are radar detector detectors. Fairly common in Canada, I think. Does Virginia use these? Canada bans possession, Virginia bans use. Valentine 1 offers a stealth display mode using a remote display module. The detector is installed as normal on front windshield but no lights are on. The remote display is hidden from public view but visible to the driver. This may allow plausible deniability, as the officer cannot truthfully declare the detector was in use.

seems a weak and unjust consequence for such behavior, unless the defendants who suffered this fate had the sentences vacated or reversed (which I doubt).

Interesting. I watched a few YouTube videos of people using it in Virginia. A little too sketchy for me though. That and the unit is $500. I'll just obey the street signs

Best $400 one can spend. Absolutely the best radar detector available. My concern is not the cost of the ticket, it's the insurance rate hikes which last for 3 1/2 years.
Avoid 2 tickets and you've paid for the V1.

I'm a retired Police Officer. I hated running traffic...I'd much rather be working cases for felons, assaults, domestic violence, or child abuse!! But when citizen complained about a certain area having lots of "speeders" we were signed to run traffic in that area.

Anyone driving a 4Runner almost always got a free pass...unless ther're just being a major jerk. No one got stopped unless they were doing 10+ MPH over the speed limit...How can I give a ticket to someone for the exact thing I do off duty?
