TimeZone's 97 Limited build and TDi Swap

Cool, looking forward to updates.

Out of curiosity, have you considered running automatic? I was originally considering manual but in the end was leaning towards auto for several reasons.
I thought about it but I've been told in these year 4Runners, getting the trans to actually shift and run smoothly while not hooked to the factory Toyota wiring harness is a nightmare. The earlier autos had a manual valve body I think so that would be easier, but probably not as strong as the newer.

Now don't quote me on that stuff, I'm sure someone somewhere has figured it out. I don't mind the 5 speed, simpler for me.

Ah! That generation Passat had that odd longitudinally mounted FWD/transaxle setup.... That makes much more sense to me now. It should fit right in the 4Runner bay, no problem. Have you figured how oil sump clearance is going to be around the front diff and crossmember?

Haven't figured it yet. The 2 pans have a different shape but I'm not too worried.

Total hight of the tdi from very bottom of the pan to top of the valve cover is about 25 inches.
From the crossmember to the hood of the 4Runner (with 2" body lift ) is 30 inches.

So if I have to raise the trans crossmember up a bit and have the oil pan higher than the v6, I should still have room.

Engine out! Next to swap out intakes to a BRM forward facing inlet and general degrease and clean up.

SSv4

If for some reason you ever want to go automatic.

The only reason I was considering auto was for it's torque multiplication properties. Being able to load up the boost at lower speeds would have been very handy offroad.

Oh wow I had no idea, thanks for that.
Yes I agree with you, general offroading with the auto would be alot easier to handle. Keeping it in mind.

Uhhhhhh hella subscribed! Nice choice in wheels.

Btw since you are doing the TDI swap (which is very cool) I have to ask, have you seen that 2017 documentary episode on Netflix about how Volkswagon deployed defeat devices? They paid a reseach company to blast animals with exhaust fumes from both a "clean diesel" TDi and a 90s Ford Diesel F250 under the premise of proving that their diesel is clean.

Not trying to throw off the topic but if you haven't yet, I suggest you watch. Very well made and interesting. Show: Dirty Money on Netflix.

Thanks! And Interesting, haven't watched it or heard of it. I'll check that out when I have abit of free time.

Cleaning up the intake ports from the good ol EGR mess. Needless to say it'll be deleted, and switching to a BRM intake which is forward facing.

Digging into the wiring harness tonight. See how bad it is to do. Won't hack up anything until I'm sure. Have some great wiring diagrams thanks to All Data.

Wiring pretty much completed, all the unnecessaries removed and each output tagged.
Now debating clutch. Centerforce, Marlin Crawler or Southbend. It's expensive but leaning towards Southbend.

Well... I am impressed. My eyes glaze over and my mind wanders to simpler tasks when I am looking at that many wires. Nice work. I am interested to see how this pans out.

Oh, come on... Motor swap wiring is fun and easy!

Sigh -- I hear you on the hesitation to use Southbend due to cost. That being said, they are the undisputed king of diesel clutches.

You are really chugging along. Don't let off the gas now!

Jeez I had it easy compared to that harness it looks!
Don't look up what the harness looks like for a Subaru motor swap (ALL of the front wiring from the b-pillars forward comes out to do it). Oh, and they use the same wire color in a the same harness for completely incompatible things. Watch out for the green with red stripe!

Don't let off the gas now!
How ironic. He let off the gas when he pulled the 5vz! :spy:

I agree though, I love the pace on this. Keep it up. I normally take a year or two to complete a motor swap...

Been busy with work lately and tinkering with my Motorcycle. Did throw on some 35s and they do fit. Looks amazing if I do say so. Kelly Safari's.

May will be a quiet month.
