I wish I could mate. Unfortunately my mechanic got it through his shop. So I saved money and didn't have to order it online. It wasn't cheap but it is quality kit like I said. I will probably use it again on next change

I changed mine because it was making quite a bit of noise at 205,000 miles. Get the Aisin fan pulley bracket off RockAuto.com for around $100. Same as OEM - Fan Pulley Bracket - Aisin. Just spin the bearing and if it makes noise, replace it. It's not too hard to do without having to do the timing belt.

I would recommend going OEM on the timing belt. The Toyota Master Techs I've talked with have said they have seen every other belt besides aftermarket flop around in there, even Gates. I'm sure that is rare, but there are no issues with the OEM kit, and if the only difference is the belt, you won't save more than $10.

I asked the seller to remove the tensioner and pulleys and he took around $40 off, which was not much. So far I got on the order the the following parts OEM: timing belt, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs w/wires, and pcv valve. The belts i'm going to go with Bando. Beck n Arnely valve cover gasket set with grommets and tube seals. Felpro manifold gasket. Fram air filter. Beck n Arnely pcv valve grommet. Permatex RTV red silicone gasket maker.

I just received the gaskets, but have not got to installing them. One thing that's positive so far is it says on the package made in Japan, and same for the PCV valve grommet. I was thinking it was made in China.

Not sure if you already bought it but I would suggest Gates belt and components and oem water pump. I used their kit on my Subaru which is an interference engine. And that was 30k miles ago. So far so good. (knock on wood) that kit was highly recommended and the quality was actually better than my oem one I took off. The water pump is also supposed to be good but I don't mess with non oem on parts like that and jobs like that. Not worth having to do it again. Whatever you choose, hope it all works out.

However, I have talked with several Master Techs and they have seen even Gates timing belts flopping around after installation. It is rare, but does happen. Yeah the water pump thing always bothered me too which is why I went oem on that. I guess no matter what brand, you run the risk of something not working out unless you just go with oem. Atleast you know it will last as long as your first one did. Like I said, I personally haven't heard any bad things about gates but I also haven't asked anyone with a 4runner if they had problems. I was basing it strictly on the Subaru one and it's quality which is surprisingly good!

My last kit I got from "the timing belt kit company" had a mix of GMB and Toyota parts. The first kit I got from them was Asin and Toyota parts. I bought both off amazon.

That one looks like a good complete kit. Looks like the same parts list as the 15 piece kit that aircabinman sells on eBay that many have gone with but the amazon kit comes with an oil filter & gasket. The eBay one is a little cheaper & has free shipping. It's the one I recommended to a friend when we do his timing belt/water pump. The 27 piece kit that I think you're referring to has spark plugs, spark plug wires, valve cover gaskets etc.

The AISIN TKT025 kit I used from Rockauto is still only $174US. The kit you pictured does have, what looks to be, a crank seal and drive belts as well. Even with the belts etc, the Rockauto kit would probably be a little cheaper. Don't forget to use Loctite on the crank bolt.... and maybe replace it....

This is the kit I used and its been in my truck for almost 2.5 yrs with absolutely no problems.

I wouldn't suggest the Gates kit. I haven't specifically used the Gates kit for the 4Runner but I have done 4 TB/WP replacements within the last year. 2 of those jobs I used Gates kits. I just had to redo the job on my Wifes' car--- the water pump failed after 5 mos. It appears the WP shaft seal failed almost immediately as evidenced by low coolant and "splash" on the underside of the hood. I was hoping it would last until the weather warmed up but it started to make noise, hence the replacement of the "NEW" water pump. A job I really hate to do twice. I will not be using Gates again.

That's why I said, in my original post, to go oem on water pump. Components like that aren't worth reinstalling. The gates belt and components were good for me.

That socket helped my brother's friend change his out on his wife's 2002 4cyl Accord. With an impact it took about 5 seconds. The first time to remove the crank bolt for him was 20 minutes and 6ft of pipe for leverage. Don't know if anyone else here has used it....:crazy:

...nope, not yet. All parts still sitting in a box in my Garage, lol.

It's due, but because the 5VZ-FE is non-interference, I haven't made it a priority.

Back in the fall, I dumped about 2 grand in parts and labour to get other priority things fixed (UBJ, LBJ, OTRE, ITRE, CALIPERS, ROTORS, FLEX HOSES, SWAY BAR, FAN/DRIVE BELTS, BATTERY).

Next up is some exhaust work as my OEM muffler is falling apart now. But if all works out, my rig will be used to prototype an aftermarket exhaust for Yonaka MotorSports, but I'll be supplying new O2 Sensors and the exhaust bracket at the cat.

And then it will be time to get the TB/WP done. I won't be tackling the job myself, I'll be paying a shop to do it.
