Agree also. I recently replaced my tensioner only because it came in the kit I purchased and I was under the impression everything needed changing once you were that far into belt replacement. Surprisingly, most parts I replaced seemed to be in good working order. Next timing belt job, I'll do the belt and pump only unless other parts prove to be needing replaced.
As has been mentioned before, you DO NOT need to touch the a/c compressor, even for total tensioner removal. Rear tensioner bolt is easily reached with long extension and wobble socket. It was a first time belt job for me and I did it, so could anyone else. Next time for total convenience sake, I'll use the special compression tool assuming the tensioner doesn't need replaced.
