Timing belt/water pump kit or piece together?

He has a LOT of kits. I think he now has some at lower price points that are not all OEM. His top-line kits are fine.

Dirk, spot on. I contacted them to specify I wanted OEM top of line parts only, price was under $300 still the same price. See no problem with going to 125k with it as is.

Airacabinman kit was great, like stated above, all OEM for less than $300. Worked out great.

Also, I'm dumber than the average rock and I could still do it within a weekend. I used a chain wrench from harbor freight and a cut up auxiliary belt to break loose the crankshaft pulley bolt.


On a side note, my exhaust seems extremely rich since I did this job. The cams and crankshaft were all lined up, but I still wonder if they weren't perfect. Any thoughts?

Also, the picture above is how I rigged the chain wrench with an NRS 5' strap to hold the wrench while I tightened the crankshaft bolt at the end.

Just pull the EFI fuse and let it sit for an hour? What does it do, just force the computer to relearn the system settings?

Don't quote me on this. Reset forces a restore to default (factory params) with ECM tuning. ECM adjusts to your driving style quicker from default tune. My take on it anyway.

Just bought my first 4runner a 1999 limited and want to have the piece of mind that the timing belt is fine. The guy said he replaced it at 125k the car has 193 now.

This post has been great but I'm trying to decide if these parts are worth the extra $40? That's adding $10 to each item for genuine toyota parts.

The AC/PS/Alt belts I don't really see value since they are relatively easy to replace. I'd do bando/gates/toyota belts and be fine with any of them.

There are a couple differences between the kit he posted and the kit I posted:

Am I missing anything to tackle this other than help?

To tackle the job the FSM is a good read check it out.

Rockauto can be like a auto parts store with somethings, don't know what your gona get sometimes.
