Tint or no tint??

I'm in NJ My coupe has 35% and I have never been stopped. It is light enough that you can still see in so I don't think the cops really mind. I've been next to cops and passed them many times, either that or they don't know if it is just factory tinted glass.

You should never have a problem on a road trip!! If you have legal tint for your state an out of state cop can do NOTHING to you. No ticket or anything else.

That is not true. When you exit one jurisdiction & enter another, you are subject to all laws in that new jurisdiction. Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. Just because my truck is registered in Georgia does not mean I can fly through Virginia with a radar detector with no fear of punishment.

While I agree that the risk is negligible regarding the tint, if you look at the letter of the law, a police officer can pull you over & issue a summons/citation for anything illegal in that jurisdiction.

All that said, if you keep the tint within reason & don't go limo black on all windows, you should be safe across the board.

I agree with the radar detector part. But I can use your same logic for a counter point.. Safety and Emissions checks are required in NC. There are no inspections of any kind in TN or MI and quite a few other states. If your logic is correct someone from TN with TN plates could get a ticket for no inspection in NC. I know that is not the case since I drive a vehicle at work with US Government plates and have been through license checks with no inspection sticker and they pass me right on through. Do you see my point though.

I called the local NC HWY Patrol. They told me the way the law is written in NC, the tint laws for NC only apply to NC Registered Vehicles. As long as your vehicle meets the requirements of the state laws in which it is registered it is exempt from NC tint laws. You will not get a ticket for darker tint here. I firmly believe that is the case in most states. The officer I talked to even pointed out that he does not carry around a list of laws for other states and if you told him what you have is legal in your state he would have no grounds to write you a ticket.

Call or go see your local HWY Patrol and check for yourself. It could be different in other states. Everyone here is basicly stating there opinions. We are all entitled to them but they may not all be right.

Where in NJ do you live or drive. I know for fact that in my area you will get ticketed. They will also wack you for no seat belts and talking on a cell.

Down South, near Mount Laurel, Cherry Hill area. Some townships don't permit you to eat in your car. NJ is the worst state I've ever lived in. I hope I move soon.

yea a main rule that cops go by is they normally wont stop you unless your driving and they cant see background traffic/trees/buildings/ or other car lights at night because that means your tint is darker than 20%. I dont beleive there is a state that allows you to have tint thats darker than 20%.

The dark tint looks smooth on the white 4Runner...
