Tint

In other states (Arizona New Mexico) most folks have very dark tint on ALL windows. As most of us know hot is a keyword down there. On average about 60 per cent of the vehicles (cars and SUV) will clearly have very dark tint on drivers and passengers side front windows. They are not hassled. Here is CA the story is different. The purpose of the law here is 2fold. 1 it allows the other driver to see your eyes to make that contact to say "I am goin in here and the other driver to acknowledge it". It also allows the CHP to stop you for any kind of reason as an exuse. The first is valid, and obviously the second is not. By the way some of the nicest people I know live in the "ghetto". Anything darker than 35% (20%, 5%, etc.) is really going to make it hard for you to see at night, especially in areas that do not have street lights. I work the 2nd shift and on my old car I had 35% on the front windows and even that made it hard to see at night.

I agree, I have had times at night where Iw as looking for a house number on a side street and kind of had a hard time seeing out the 20%...but oh well, it wasnt enough that it would stop me from doing it again.

Just to clarify, when you guys are referencing a 35% tint...is it 35% of the visible light is transmitted through the window or does it mean that 35% of visible light is blocked leaving 65% transmitted?

So how would you interpret the laws in MA...

reflectance of not more than thirty-five per cent or a visible light transmittance of not less than thirtyfive

The front windows must be 35% or lighter tint.
(20% would be darker, 50% would be lighter)

In Mass the legal tint is 33%. All you have to do is sign a waiver at the place that installs it and they will put anything you want on your windows. 33% is too light.

So since we're on the subject of MA state tint laws does anyone know of a good tint shop in western MA or northern CT? I'm willing to travel to if I have to but I'd rather stay between Worcester & Springfield if I can.

My biggest concern is the quality of the film and installation. Nothing would annoy me more than having to look through a bunch of air bubbles or a piece of scratched up tint.
