Tint?

If you bought it used, who knows what the previous owner might have tinted it. if you bought it new the factory tint shouldnt be 5%. If you take it to a place to get the Driver and passenger windows tinted they can tell you for sure. You didnt have any pics in this thread, but i would guess it would be 15-20% ish.

The guy who does my tint said that factory is normally around 20%. He put 20% on my front two windows, and I think it matches really good.

Just remember, factory tint is not actually tint. The glass itself has been treated from the factory in order to darken it. Therefore it's really just tinted glass. Aftermarket film tint is film that is placed over the glass in order to darken it.
I do not know for 100% sure, but the factory tinted glass on 3rd gen 4Runners is somewhere in the mid 20% range.
Oh and it is not a big deal to some, but it's worth point out. Film tint can actually block a certain % of UV Rays that can, over time, damage your interior. Tinted glass on the other hand cannot block these rays. Most owners add film tint for aesthetics, but a lot of people do not know it also helps block uv rays too. (I'm sure most people living in AZ all know this though

You better watch out there man i just heard they changed the tint laws in ohio to 75% on the front windows, i dont know how bad the cops are in lima but in cleveland they have been on us.

haha, i just got a tint ticket in the 07 a week ago... legal in florida for the d and p is 28%, i had 15 put on, but it reads as 14%... the front windshield is 30% all the way but they dont have scanners for those yet.
atleast i wasnt driving my 02!! 5% all around with 30% down the windshield

Just curious because I am going in tomorrow to re-do my front windows. They are putting down a dark layer (I'm not sure whether it's 35% or 20%) and then putting limo (5%) on top of that. Otherwise it will look green with just the limo because the color of the glass will show too much. This way it will be black. But anyways, I am curious about how careful I'm going to have to be about rolling my front windows down around cops, because I will basically have double limo on all of my back windows and a little darker than limo on the front. (We can go as dark as we please on our back windows in CA, but with a pure black back window, I'm sure they will most likely try to get a peek at how dark I have my front windows.)
Here's the combo I will have after tomorrow. I already have 5% on top of factory on the very back window, and then another 5% on top of that. (So double limo on top of the factory 30%) :bigok:
All of the rear side windows are 5% over factory, and will have either a 35% or 20% put over that tomorrow to give it the last push into pure black because if the sun is at the right angle, you can still see through the window a tiny bit with just the 5%.
Then the front windows will be 30% or 20% and then 5% limo on top of that.

And here is a picture of why I am going in to have the front windows done with 35%-20% and THEN a layer of limo on top of that. The medium tint before the limo will achieve the black look, by neutralizing the green glass. Whereas putting the limo on without the first layer of tint, it came out green-ish. :sobbing:

well i was told i was pulled over because i didnt come to a complete stop at a stop sign (bullshit). it was a VERY clear tint check point, they walked up to all the cars with the scanners in hand. it happened on a side street with the most pointless stop sign ever, basically, its a curve with stop signs.
i have never heard of anyone having your issue before, i had double limo back when i was in highschool, and it was fun for oh... about 2 months, and then when i realized seeing was better than not being seen, well i stripped a layer off.

Odd, I'll have to keep my eyes out for anything like that. I'm not worried about the double limo on the back since we can roll down the window in a matter of seconds. The only time I have trouble seeing out of the double limo is in my back ally when I park at night because there is virtually no light at all. If it were any other vehicle besides a 4Runner and I didn't have the option to roll down the back window, then I would have stuck with one layer of 5%.
