I can't comprehend why anybody would want to do this. I want to be as seen as possible, especially from the rear.

Why tint a legally required visibility feature of your vehicle? Its not going to "look cool" when you get a ticket or get rear-ended and you're liable (negligence).

That makes about as much sense as buying a 2x4 4runner.

Any luck wrapping the headlights? Been trying vivid lite smoke, but so far not successfully.

+1 for the Never Again team.

I tinted tails on a jeep I used to have and got pulled over by a Santa Cruz sheriff. It was a cordial experience - he just explained that he couldn't see my brake lights illuminating when behind me, even with upgraded LED lights I installed specifically to offset the tint. Luckily, I wasn't ticketed because the coating was a decal-like tint so I just peeled it off.

I get it, the chrome inside the housing is just plain crap, but it's better than having a rear end caved in.

I don't think it's in my budget now for those upgraded tails, but isn't there a write up somewhere on here involving disassembling the housing and painting the inside? Or was that just for the headlights?

Yes. , let’s increase the chance of someone hitting me from behind with my family in the car , not trying to sound like an azz but that is pretty stupid , like hanging something from yer rear view mirror blocking your view To handicap yourself driving

There's been few members who have done a partial side tint over the amber directionals, myself included. Combined with the switchback LEDs the brightness shines right through. Still, probably wouldn't tint the whole thing for reasons stated above.

Rgr, but there is some mixed information about being able to heat and pull apart the 5th gens. Something about new type of glue used:shrug:. Or maybe that was the headlights.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to find now, seeing if that thread for the tails was real or just in my mind haha. I do remember a build thread where someone baked their headlight assemblies in the oven to get them apart.

That’s what I did too, chrome delete

The amber doesn't bother me its the ugly chrome i can't stand.

The OE assemblies are sealed. You can't bake them open at all. Cut maybe.

The TYC lights are two piece with the same bonding they use for the headlights. Just bake and pop open.

TYC is what Kustom54, and probably others like Unique Style Racing etc are using.
