Tire advice.

I'm sure it has been discussed before but I am a new member and looking for advice.

I have an 04 4runner currently with BFG AT KO 265/70/17. I am needing new tires very soon and was looking and found BFG Rugged Terrain T/A 265/65/17 stock size. I don't see the need for the slightly larger tire any longer. The former owner lived further out and travelled a dirt road.

Anyone run these yet and if so what do you think. I love the KO's and have run them for many years on other vehicles and have no complaints. I do not go offroad with my 4runner. I live out of the city and hit many country roads and in the winter sometimes i'm on them before the snow is plowed. I need something that will be a good tire and have good highway manners and good rain and snow grip.

Any advice will be helpful.

I just put a set of Michelin LTX M+S tires on my '04 after having them on my '99 4Runner for almost 7 years. The set on my '99 have 110k mi on them and are just about at the end of their life, but they have been quiet, comfortable, and remarkably grippy over their whole lifespan. They only ever saw limited mud or snow action, but the few times that I did have them in low grip conditions, I was really happy with their performance. They're a great all around tire and I'd recommend them to any 4Runner owner. They're a little spendy at about $1k for a set of 4, but they are great tires and last forever. The newer ones are labeled "LTX M+S 2", so they may have changed the compound from the first generation set that I have on the older 4Runner, so hopefully the new ones are just as good. I guess time will tell.

I just drove brand new Michelin LTX MS2 600KMs and they were very quiet. I've read several reviews and posts on various truck/SUV sites and the majority have given the LTX MS2 very positive feedback. I don't have a lot of experience with truck tires but I've been a Michelin fan every since switching to them for my family's cars (both summer and winter). The only downside is that their purchase price is a bit higher than their competitors. Hope this helps.

x3 on the ltx ms2, they are pricy but last 2x longer than bfg tires.
Had them on 3 trucks so far.

I would also recommend the geolander ats tires.

I'm running the Yoko geolander AT/S on the 4runner so far no complaints, good tires for the money.

Best I've ever run were the Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO, these tires are extremely good in the wet, dirt and on the pavement, with LOW noise. I've run numerous GoodYears over the last 15 years and have never been satisfied for the price they cost performance just isn't reflected in the wear, grip and road noise is pretty high with the exception of the Fortera Triple Treads *(these are way expensive and wear quick).

So if you're on a budget I'd say go with the Yokohamas if you went the best get the AT Revo. IMO Mudtires and aggressive offroad tires on these rigs is a waste.

x5 on Yokohama Geolandar ATS.

In todays economy, popular brand prices are sky rocketing compared to equally safer, quality tire brands, which make me think more that we are just paying for the brand name...some are really over priced!

I can not pay $200 for a tire in which the actual worth of the rubber is only $160. In my other car, where I can afford top brands for its size..so last year I bought Michelins..yeah I made a good choice, It Dry Rotted in exactly 12 months.

Been running the Yoko Geolander ATS for 15k miles. No complaints seems to be a good tire for the $$$. Was under the 4runner airing-up the spare with 0 miles and noticed very little difference on the treadwear between it and the other tires.

Bought them off of Tirerack for a good price.

One of the reasons I bought the 4Runner I got is because it had practically new Michelins on it. When I told the dealer I was looking at one from a private owner that had new Michelins his comment was "that means somebody is really taken good care of the vehicle". He matched the price on a similar 4Runner, but I went with the private owner vehicle.
