Tire/Alignment Problems

Im currently running tundra bilstein 5100's with stock tundra coils on the 3rd perch, giving me almost exactly 3" of lift.

the print out from the shop where I got my alignment says I have -.35° and -.36° of camber left and right, which is within spec (-.57 to +.99° is what they say is within spec). However, since I got my last alignment a month (5000 km) ago, I noticed that my outer lugs on my front tires are ****ing gone. My tires overall are at around 70%, while the front tires' outer lugs are at an optimistic 25%!

My front end is tight and I run 40 psi, so I know that low tire pressure or a sloppy front end are not to blame. Can anyone explain this?

And on a side note, my caster is at 1.1° and 1.3°, which is below spec, and it sucks. The truck feels twitchy and the steering wheel returns to center horribly slow. However, they said that was the most caster they could get because of the 3" of lift.

The alignment shop said they will take a look at it, but that "there's no way the tires could wear unevenly in 5000km unless the alignment was waaay out".

I'm debating dropping my shocks down to the 2nd perch, but I don't know how much better of an alignment they will be able to get at 2.5" vs 3" of lift.

This shop has a very good reputation and they specialize in aligning lifted trucks. I really don't know what's going on. Either way, my tires are pretty much garbage. Not too happy about that. At least they're retreads lol....

The numbers you quoted wouldn't wear anything, but what was toe? Wearing the outside lugs could only be EXTREMELY positive camber, or heavy toe in!

:couch2:

toe is (was) 1/16" left and right for a total of 1/8". My only explanation is that the alignment adjustment cams have shifted since the alignment, either from getting bumped or from not being tight enough.

The outer lugs that are excessively worn look like they've been scuffed at an angle. That points to incorrect toe.

My guard dogs did the same thing! I've had them check balance and alignment multiple times! I only get that wear pattern on the front tires, ball joint are all good... Maybe the guard dogs are just more suseptable to that kind of wear??
