Tire Chains

With the storms finally moving into western Nevada, I'm thinking about getting a second set of tire chains for my 92 with 31X10.5X15LT tires. The owners manual says that chains shouldn't be installed on the front wheels. I figure that is due to clearance issues while turning. I think the charcoal canister (or something of that sort) is exposed to the tire in the front passenger wheel well. I'd only use the fronts for extreme traction issue situations.

Do you just use front and rear chains when you need them regardless of what Toyota says?
Are there any other reasons to not install chains on the front wheels?

what kind of chains do you use already? I wouldnt use actual chains up front, b/c if they rub they could do some serious damage. I though about getting something like this, they seem do be more low profile.

I've got the standard truck and SUV twist link chains right now. The guys over at Yotatech don't seem to care about the use of front chains except when it comes to turning, which is where I'd expect to find a problem. I've considered the cables and they would work for street driving, but they'd get torn apart up in the mountains while out hunting.

Thanks for the reply. The big snow storms turned out to be a little rain and a little snow that melted before 10:00am, so I can put off the decision for a while.

I've used chains on all 4 wheels before. Just have to use some common sense. As far as clearance, they'll rub the frame first, depending how your steering stops are set, or the lip of the fender.
