Alright I did the 2.5 inch spacer lift up front to fit 285/70/17 BFG All Terrians. I put the tires on 04 4runner rims. This is on my 96 4runner which will never go off road. It seems that there is only about a quarter inch of clearance between the tire and upper control arm. Looks a little too close. Wondering if this is ok or I should use wheel spacers. Hate to put money in after market rims.

Like the person above stated, you could invest in wheel spacers that bolt onto your current bolts. It will push your tires/rims away from your control arms but by spacing your tires out, your stressing your ball joints out and can possibly rub on body. Just measure, and measure some more. Then make your decision. Turn your tires all the way to the left, measure. Then turn to far right, measure. You shouldnt have to buy new rims. Post pics bro.

It sounds like you have the lift, wheels and tires on. If you have a 1/4" at ride height, I would drive it and watch it. Keep an eye on the paint on the UCAs. also look for signs of rubbing on the inner sidewall. If the paint is getting rubbed off, I wouldn't be too concerned. When you start seeing a strong rubbing line on the tire, that is time to worry. I know guys that have wheeled with less space than that and have had no issues.
You probably will have other rubbing issues on places like the front bumper/lower valance, rear of the wheelwell/firewall. These can be cut, pounded, heat gun melted, and massaged to minimize rubbing (noticed mainly when turning the wheels). Spacers will move the tire away from the UCAs but will increase the other rubbing because the wheels have a larger arc when turning.

The spacers would do the trick for a-arm clearance, but it seems like then the tires might hit the front valance, which would be no problem to trim, or hit the factory running boards, which I would'nt mind removing. I picked this 4r up in dec and have since done the spacer lift in front and the 891's in the rear. Also did the console upgrade which I read about on this site. Was lucky and found a gray one on ebay for $60.00. That is a great idea! Also put in Weatherteck front floor mats and rear cargo mat. They fit great. Now on to the dome light problem where it won't come on in the door position. Hard to believe all four door switches are bad.
