Tire fitment without a lift

I was thinking of changing the tire size on my 2011 4runner to a 285/70/17. I want to put a spacer lift on it, but I'm not ready to do so right now. Can I go up in tire size without installing a lift kit? I'm worried about fitment/rubbing issues.
