Tire Jack

Hi guys, hope you can help me.

I have a 2010 4Runner Limited.

This is going to be embarrassing, but i cant get my car jacked up to change a flat.

Luckily, it happened right outside my house so my car is safely on the driveway.

I got my manual out, and it shows me 4 round spots on the front and rear axle to place my jack. But looking under the car, i dont see those spots. I called my shop that does my normal repairs, and they said that my spot is actually on my frame under the passenger side back door. Now im conflicted. Do i listen to the mechanic, or the manual?

If anyone can point me to the proper spot, I will be forever grateful!

Wait... They are saying to jack the vehicle by the axle now?



Let me clarify before others inject.
Sure I know about suspension droop and not being able to get the vehicle high enough with certain setups...
Hence the block of plastic "wood" (larger than the base of the jack) of varying thickness and such...
But I learned never to use the suspension as a jack point.


Page 605 shows the groove in the jack head going on the round axle housing?

The axle is round.

Is is perspective.
One round is the jack head I assume. That is horizontal.
The round of the axle is on the vertical.

Put on quarter on the table flat. That is the jack.
Stand one quarter on the flat quarter (perpendicular/90 degree angle) and that is the axle.

Maybe I am just too tired.

You can jack it up anywhere on the frame. For the rear, you can use the diff or the axle.

These threads describe it well.
Pics below are from the second link, back and front jack points. I use a jack adapter for the rear axles. Although the jack will stay on the axle if everything is stable and wheels are chocked. For the front, maybe use a wide sturdy block of wood to get some extra height, the jack is extended rather far. But it all works.
