Tire light on dash?

Anybody know how low the tire pressure has to be to trigger this light? I noticed yesterday when I went to lunch it was on. When I got in to leave work later that afternoon the light was off... I didnt know if the colder weather sparked this issue or what... I checked them today and 3 tires where at 30ish psi, the 4th was around 25 psi? I guess it could be a sensor going out... Just curious if anyone knew what psi would trigger the light.

I think that I remember reading that 28-30psi is the trigger. Now that it's getting colder, my light is usually on in the morning, but turns off about 1/2 way to work when the tires get warmed up.

Make sure you check your spare, it has a sensor too.

Not 100% positive on this, but from what I read when this happened to me last year, it usually triggers the indicator once the pressure drops ~6 psi from the recommended pressure...or somewhere around 26 psi. Be sure you check your spare tire too! When it happened to me, all of my tires were good (30-32 psi in each) except my spare which was at 24 or 25 psi. I agree with you about the cold weather having something to do with it.

The obvious spot to check here would be the low tire. I'd be looking for a slow leak of some sort. The fact that 1 tire was 5 psi lower than all the rest should be a cue to check.

My spare triggers the sensor once it gets cold out.

If your 4Runner has TPMS then the spare is equipped with a sensor also and should be regularly inflated as they do leak air naturally over time.

IIRC, its something like 27. something psi for the minimum allowed pressure before the light is trigged, I also believe that is there is a 6psi difference between any of the tires, the light will set.

I just went through this on mine last night. My spare was at 22psi. I had to drop it to fill it because the air chuck would not fit up there. I was able to drop it about 6 inches the the pulley got all bound up. 30 minutes later the tire was finally off and I now need to find a new pulley. I thought trading my Grand Cherokee in for the Runner would get me away from these stupid little issues but I guess not.

I just heard a Toyota mechanic speaking to a customer about this. The weather plays a definite roll. He suggested inflating the spare + 2psi so you wouldn't have to fool with it very often.

Good question. Mine has been on steadily for a couple of years now, and yes, all tires, including spare, are correctly inflated. I'm considering just pulling the dash apart and yanking the bulb.
