Tire Pressure Light

I have a 2005 Toyota 4Runner SR5 and recently the tire pressure light has come on.

I did a google search and found out that i had to inflate the tires to the correct pressure, including the spare and it would go off. I did exactly that, drove it around for about an hour and the light is still on. :redbrick:

I got to thinking that maybe for it to reset i would have had to lower the spare tire, (which i haven't a clue how to do) and add air that way. I managed to throw my air compressor hose over the top of the spare, and fill it up that way. I NEVER lowered the spare tire.

Would that be a reason that the light isn't going off? How in the world do i even lower that spare tire?

I had that problem too but eventually reset itself. If you change the sensor, you need to change all 5. I checked into this when I wanted to get a set for my winter tires/wheels.

I'd assume if there are 5 sensors and i have to change them all that each of them is located near the wheel. Is this correct?

How much does each sensor cost, where do i buy it (a link would be nice if you have one) and where does each sensor actually go? Is there a guide out there?

Sorry about my ignorance, but this is my 3rd post on this forum.

I'm not really sure if that price is for 5 sensors or just for one. You should give them a call to confirm. However, judging by the description, "sensor" implies only one. If they say "sensors" then it may be 5.

Mhm, i think i'll do that.

Do you know how to lower the spare tire? I can't find any guides or anything anywhere that explain it fully.

1. Open the tail gate

2. Locate the spare tire/ jack equipment on the panel on the left

3. Connect the spare tire equipment together starting with the rounded hook end. Attach the straight rod to that, then the lug wrench will have a 3/8 inch hole in the middle that will fit on the end and create a T-handle, but do not attach the lug wrench just yet.

4. Locate the hole near the lock mechanism of the tail gate, that's where you will stick the thing you assembled in part 3 in

5. Apply the lug wrench on the end to make the T-handle and turn counterclockwise to unwind the cable holding the tire to the undercarriage of the 4Runner.

Go to your Toyota dealership and find out which sensor is faulty u can replace the bad one bit a dealership has to reprogram your new sensor

Exactly. They can tell you which one is not reading. The sensor is the tire valve itself. The tire gets removed and the sensor gets bolted in. Your local dealer can do this fairly quickly. If you can't replace the sensor yourself I'd recommend buying the sensor from the dealer and having them replace it. This way if anything goes wrong the dealer is responsible and the part can be warrantied.

Who told you that?? Sorry..but that's totally bogus.

I've replaced just ONE sensor before. Just have to have it calibrated to your car. And unfortunately the dealer is the only place around here that can do that. Cost me $75 for the sensor (on-line). Then another $50 for the dealer to calibrate it.

I talked to the dealer because I purchased a set of rims for winter tires a few months back and wanted sensors for them and they said I would need to get a new set of sensors as they are uniquely coded.

Sounds to me like the stealer is trying to take money from you. What a surprise.

I actually just went ahead and cut the wires apart, spliced them together, soldered the connection, and now the light is permanently out.

So it is possible to get the same set of sensors (coded the same) for my winter rims/tires as my regular rims/tires. In other words, all 9 sets of rims have the same sensors, coded the same.

Nope, every sensor is unique. Each one has a 7 digit alphanumeric code that has to be input into the tire pressure computer. Some toyotas (gx,rx,land cruiser,etc) were equipped with a 1/2 switch system that allowed for 2 sets of sensors ie winter/summer to be programmed. I don't know if anyone has ever tried to swap it in but I'm pretty sure the harness would need more work than its worth.
