Yeah I Pm'd Sherman, who is the guy I think you are referring to. He said BFG's are the ones that he can get a real good deal with.

So a new perdicament. The guy said he could probably get me (4) 285/75/16's in D for $650. That is an awesome deal and tempting, but I was really trying to stay away from 33's. Decisions decisions.

You already have the lift for them. Why not go ahead with the 285s and save up for the gears later. I road with 285s for a while on stock 4.30s and about to do it again in the near future. Granted most of the land here is just hilly so gears aren't too big of a deal as far as street driving.

Yeah I might do it depending on what the GF says. Money is a little tight, but I think she would be happy with new tires over craigslist and TW. She drove my 4runner for the first time last night and said she had to jump into it. She's 5' 1" so I might have to put the running boards back on until I can get some new sliders this Christmas. I want to keep my sliders, but I need the money and it costs money to put them on. Unlike the running boards which are free. If I keep the running boards I will just take them off when I go wheeling.

I read a post by brian2sun on yotatech and he said he couldn't stand the E's and his D rated were 100x better. I trust his judgement and experience a lot more than mine at this time. I've had BFG's in the past and loved them, but I'm not single anymore and my vehicle will be the primary road trip and snow vehicle, so I have to have the better ride quality.

Thanks man, I appreciate that! Since then, I have ridden in J-money's truck many times and he has E rated BFG KM2s and they didn't ride nearly as harsh as the E rated Dunlops I had. I don't know why, but the ride of an E seems to vary with tire brands.

I don't think all E tires will feel alike. Just because you don't like the Cooper Discoverer STTs doesn't mean that you won't like the BFGs or any other brand. I think it is more about tread.

Its quite possible that most Yota/T4R members probably don't even know what their tire rating is D vs E ect. I know I didn't until this thread.

Ok so after much deliberation and talking it over, I'm going to keep my tires for now and save up a bit more. My tires will be fine for going to work and back, but once snow season starts I will want something that I can take on longer trips. I have only ~$500 right now to use on tires and need more than that to justify buying new. I also have decided I'll probably bump up to a 285. The back just looks like there is too much space and I might as well. I may change my mind, but we will see in a month or so. My bday is in the beginning of November so that would be a great time to scrounge some more money together and get some tires. I really appreciate all the input and help.

There you go!! Save up some more money, do some more research and then buy some really good tires that you will enjoy for a long time.

BTW - what air pressure are you running in your current tires??

I have it at 35 psi and it was at 40 psi when the tires were mounted. I may go down to 32-33 psi and see if it gets better.

4 Brand New Sigma Mirada crosstour tires for sale. They have a about 150 miles on them as of today. Bought a new 2006 4R and I want to go with a bigger tire and lift. They are 265-65/17's. They have a 70,000 mile manf. warranty on them and are great tires for the money. A new set is around $800. Will take $400 the set.

For 265's get the "D" range the stiffer sidewalls give you much better control
than the "C" weight. They won't ride harsh if not over inflated.

I ran "D" weight 265's for just over 81,000 miles and replaced them with "E" weight 285's..."E" was my only option for the tires I wanted.

i agree. i have the "C" rated cooper discoverer STs and the sidewall flexes WAY too much for my preference. its like an extra inch or so of body roll on top of the max squishness of the LC springs in the rear.

im getting E's next time.
