Tire Question

I have a 2003 4Runner and I need new tires and was looking at possibly upgrading from what I have. I currently have 265/70-16.

I was wondering whats the biggest I could put on without any rubbing issues. I'm thinking of getting some new wheels too so rim size isn't an issue. Also, how will it affect my mileage and overall feel?

Any suggestions on tires/wheels would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I did notice you have 16" rims and most answers are for the 17" rims that you'll see.

If it helps I know a 265/70/17 fits with no problems unless it's a square tire like the BFG A/T. Even then it's very mild rubbing at full turn.

Looking at the Dunlop Grantrek (since it comes in tons of sizes):
265/65/17 is 10.4" wide and 30.6" tall roughly.
267/70/17 is 10.7" wide and 31.7" tall roughly and fits.
275/65/17 is 10.9" wide and 31.2" tall roughly and should fit with minor rubbing.
275/70/16 is 11.1" wide and 31.3" overall. They will rub at least at full lock

Look at the graphs on tirerack for data on diameter and width: Dunlop Grandtrek AT20
Search for your size you're looking for, pick a tire and click specs to see height and diameter.

Ok. For more road oriented go with the Michelin LTX or Bridgestone Revo 2. A good middle would be the Nitto Terra Grappler. For an agressive look, but still good road manners look at the BFG KO or Goodyear DuraTrac.
