Tire recommendations...

I second the Hankook ATM. I have them on my 2000 4runner and my 15 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both are quiet and seem to not show any signs of wear. I have 25000 on my 4Runner and they look like they are new. The Jeep is wearing the same. Great on and off road.

I've been happy with my Hankook ATM on the Land Cruiser. They are by far one of the least expensive AT tires out there. I was going to put a set on the 4Runner, but my Pop's was using the truck for a while and ended up putting some Michelin all season's on there.

THIS. BFGs are an off-road staple, but as previously mentioned there are some great tires for less. I have 31 x 10.5 Hankook DynaPros on my T4R and love them. Now I just gotta find a place to go (only have had the truck for a day...).

I have a set of 5 Sequoia (17”) split 5-spoke rims and am replacing / selling my stock Sport (16”) “coke bottle” rims and tires. I’ve settled in on 285/70R17 as I want the spare to sit underneath the truck and don’t want to do too much to get them to fit all around. Truck is suspension lifted 3” up front and 3.5” in back.

Going back and forth between the BFG KO2 (A/T) in load range C/D and the new Toyo Open Country R/T (only comes in E, I believe). The truck is no longer a DD but does spend more time on road than off - don’t want to go M/T for this reason.

What would you do?
what does the “E” stand for?

Load range E.

So after studying the recommended tires I ended up getting 5 285/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers: they’re arriving on Monday. Hoping I can fit the 5th one under the truck: even deflated. Will follow up with results. Thanks again everyone!
Wish they weighed less. Love the look and read good things.

The LTX AT2's are awesome tires. Used them in upstate New York in the snow and they were incredible.

I ran these in Alaska for 4 years on our Ford E350 4x4 van. Never switched to studs in the winter and had no issues. I even bought a set of chains in case I got stuck on one of our more remote adventures and never needed them. Fantastic in the snow. I am just now looking at replacing them and they are also near the 80k mark with some tread left.

Any suggestions for a tire that does well on snow and ice? My wife is starting to drive my manual 4R so I am looking for something that will be grippy in the winter in Wisconsin.

I had Michelin Defender LTX on my Yukon and liked them. Looking for comments on these or other suggestions, including opinions on dedicated winter tires.

I've ran lots of different styles and prefer the BFG Km2 tires. I hated my duratrac in al area's BUT mileage out of the tire. I would recommend one of those and ultimately if you want to fit it underneath you'll need to keep it low air to squeeze under.

So I throw my vote in for BFG!!

I'm a little late to the party here. If you pretty much sick to easy stuff, dirt roads, logging roads etc, then get whatever will be the best behaving tire on the street. If you want to wheel moderately hard or harder stuff, go out to the the local wheeling destinations you will be visiting and see what the guys there run. If they all have mtrs, get mtrs, if they all run terra grapplers, get terra grapplers. Those guys collectively have tried the popular tires, and have found what works on your local terrain.
Other then what works well on the street, take tire recommendations from the internet with a grain of salt. People run all different types of terrains, in different regions, and the mud/rocks in BC are different then the mud/rocks in CA, UT, or CT. What works well in one area might suck in another. I like my maxxis bighorns in my area, but I have never taken them to the northeast, so there might much better performing options out there.

Well, the 285/70R17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 17” Sequoia rims are installed and suffice to say but I’m a happy camper. I ended up getting a fifth Sequoia rim and another one of these tires for the spare which I was able to get under the truck by moving the factory hitch back one hole (approximately 1.5”). It sticks out more than stock now but still looks good - I love that I got the tire under there. About 1/2” - 1” clearance to the panhard bar.

Driving on 33s definitely feels very different than 32s - it could be that I had more of a true AT tire before (Toyo Open Country AT II) and it could be that these weigh a LOT more. Makes the T4R feel much more like the lifted Jeep Wranglers that are a dollar a dozen around here. I love being a little different with my old Toyota.

Man, oh, man, that is one great looking T4R.

Those rims were an excellent choice with your color.

She’s a beaut Clark!!! And good call on that tire size I think this the PERFECT setup with thundercloud. I bought 265/70/17 and then got the lift.. oopsie.

If I could have found sequoia wheels I’d have been quite happy, but I couldn’t so I made them as close as I could get them to the graphite color. IMG_0703.jpgIMG_0689.jpg
