Tire rubbing question. 285/lift.

Hi all,

I've put a lift on my '00 SR5. It's the adjustable bilstein 5100 at max height with the toytec/eibach springs in front and the bilstein 5125 in back with ome 890 springs. I like the look and the ride.

I threw on some General Grabber AT2 in 285/75/16 on stock 6 spoke wheels and I get slight rubbing but only with the wheels turned most of the way while going over terrain that causes the suspension to compress. I haven't been able to actually see where the rub is but I can tell there is only a fingers width between the UCA and the tire when the truck is sitting.

The truck sees mostly winter city driving, with occasional off road/trail use in fall and winter. I see some threads advocating spacers, and others doing some fender/bumper trimming. What do you think?

Do you see this rub as being a serious problem, I plan on doing a little bit of trail use in the near future. Should I try to correct it before going, or just be careful?

Thanks all,

Exactly what perch are your 5100 set ? Highest setting is a NO NO! You will probably blow your shock !! If it's tundra 5100 it should be 1 or 2 perch with eibachs. With the highest toyt front should be HIGHER then the front.

As for rubbing, mine rub also when turned all the way. I just avoid turning all the way. You could wheel spacers !

I meant to say lowest perch (which gives most height) for the 5100s. I read the warning of using any other perch while installing. I can usually avoid max turns, but I'm worried mostly about running into problems off road with articulation AND tight turns.

Lowest perch does not give the most height. The higher you go on the shock, the higher the bottom of the spring is, resulting in a higher sitting vehicle.

Thanks for clearing that up. The recommendation was to use the lowest perch or risk damaging suspension components. The truck is the expected height and there is no rake and I'm just wondering about the rub in the front now.

It seems the upper control arm is rubbing when the wheels are turned and suspension is articulated. I'm going to try a 6mm spacer in the front. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

I'm running 285/75/16's and the same front lift as you with no rubbing and no spacers. It's going to depend on the amount of backspacing you have on the new wheels. You best bet is going to be getting some 1.25" spacers up front. You can add some 1.5" spacers in the rear as well to even out the stance.
