Ok I know there are about a million threads on this and I have read many of them but they always turn into all this crap about lifts and what not. I am looking for basically a yes or no answer about rubbing and would like to hear other people's experiences with it. I have a STOCK 97 sr5 runner with 4wd. I currently have 265/70/16 and would like to know if I will rub with 265/75/16 tires. Again my car is stock and will not be lifted with these tires. Please can we keep this advice only about the rub factor from people with experience with this size tire on a stock setup. Not that you guys with the gnarly rigs do not know what you are talking about but I prefer current experience to theory. Thanks in advance!

I got the 265/75/16r with a stock setup and it rubbed a little. All I had to trim was the flare on the front bumper. It only hit it when I turned the wheel pretty far like turning into a parking spot. Here is a photo. It fills the wheel wells pretty good. All I had to trim is the area I drew in red. I just used a hand saw and then sanded to clean the cut. Very simple.

Note there is a difference between rubbing when wheeling around town and rubbing when on the trail at full flex. With that slightly larger tire you may rub a bit on the trail at full flex. I don't think it is an issue really because it is something you can correct for.

Current: 30.61
New: 31.65 (803.9)
Difference: 1.04 (26.5) 3.4%

You will likely rub. That is a safe answer. You need to factor a couple of things. What tire you are going to use? They all are a touch different in the same size. How many miles on your T4R and have you ever replaced springs? Your suspension has likely sagged over time and this will effect tire fitment.

Tire Rack has all the measurements for tires in different makes and sizes. I found my current stock tires and compared to new candidates sizes and weights.

I buy all my tires at Discount Tire as they always better the best price I can find. I would make sure they have both sizes in stock and have them test fit your rig. If you rub you can always just size down or if rubbing is minimal you can drive home and trim a bit. You can search and ask all you want but this is the only way you will find out. Then you can post up your experience so the next guy like you has a better idea of what to expect.

If I were not doing a lift I would stay stock size and go with a tire like the Duratracs or BFG AT they look bigger and the stock size is no small tire to begin with. Better mpg easier on the vehicle and positively no rub.
 
Like Jaystoy basically said, it will depend on the specific tire.
I've also got a '97 SR5 4x4. When purchased, it was totally stock but came with Michelin LTX 265/75-16's. No rub whatsoever. YMMV. There is no black & white answer.

Good info. I just ordered a set 265/75R16 BFG T/A KOs to mount on a set of 5 spokes to go on my 98 T4R. It currently has some worn 265/70s on split 3s. I will post up some before and after pictures later this week and let you know if they are rubbing.

I may put a puc spacer in the front for now if needed. I have plans for some Toytec adjustable coils later this year when funds allow. Will probably need them to level things back out when the Shrockworks bumper goes on.

I do take it off roading pretty frequently but it isn't extremely gnarly off roading so there is no need for a lift. I am also 16 with no job so do not have the money to buy things like a lift, I need to prioritize my upgrades to the most necessary ones.

Thanks this helps a lot! I have had my heart set on BFG ATs but after doing some reading later on I was going to put up a thread asking about which is better, them or duratracs but I would definitely get one of those two. Also my truck does not seem to have any sag(although it most likely has at least a little bit) but it does not seem like a lot. I would love to get some 99 Tallis but I just do not have the money for it right now.

For being sixteen and being able to prioritize is way ahead of the game. If you have a goal to lift a bit then I would go with the 265/75/16 and trim a bit if needed. Spacers could be cheap fix too.

This is what I have just been reading up on. I hope to eventually do a set of Toytec, Allpro, or other Billy 5100s, but I think for the interim I will buy a set of spacers just to get the front up and not rub. Probably just a 1" set for now, but I will wait and get them mounted up and see before I go jumping in too deep. If you are looking at doing a 2.5" spacer, for $50 more you can have the basic Billys with 3 settings, if you have somewhere to have the coils swapped over.
