Tire Size Question(yes i've searched and seen the million other threads w/ same name)

So I know 265/75s can fit if your riding the taller coils or for the most part a 4WD model. Having an '01 2WD though I would say i have the shortest coils of any 3rd gen(probably). The 4runner sits slightly taller in the rear and even though it looks room enough for the upsize the front looks like it would rub.

With that out of the way I was looking at tires in Walmart and saw these Goodyears. They Have them in a 265/75, but no 70. The next smallest size was a 245/75. Would that size be smaller than my current 265/70s? Or with its more aggressive tread and sidewall would it look about the same size?

Ok, for one they don't make 260/75/16 and 245/75/16 are actually 30.5" tires but are more narrower than the stock 265/70/16. My advice would be to find a different set of springs before changing tires sizes. I ran 265/75/16 for awhile with my stock 98 sprigs with no issues. Still have them sitting in my basement if your interested.

What tires are you looking at from wal-mart? Are you opposed to doing a little trimming. You really shouldn't have a problem overall with a 265/75 but you may need to trim on the inside of the fender flares. If I remember correctly your 4Runner doesn't see much offroad time? I wouldn't sweat it. I have never heard of anyone with any year 4Runner just plain not being able to fit them. I would shy away from the 245s but I just can't fathom going down in tire size... its just not my style. Good luck with whatever you choose and hopefully someone can chime in with a 01-02 with some first-hand experience.

don't remeber exact name, they were goodyears similar looking to the duratracs. and yea trimming is out of the picture. and yea off-road wise it is pretty much just straight driving thru mud so the kind of full turn needed like ive seen with peoples rock crawling photos aren't needed.


anyone think this would be a good idea? or would the inch make the front alot higher than level?

yeah unless your tires are bald right now spend the $250 bucks for a coil and spacer lift then get some real tires, you'll be alot happier in the long run, rather than waiting another few years for the new tires to wear out and do it then.

I've seen the tires you are talking about Sloan. They look decent and are priced really well.

Just get the 75's.

You messed up the tire size again, 265, not 256! Try another edit.

265/75's usually fit anything with little to no problems. The gap between the top of the tire and wheel arch is not the area you should be concerned with. It's the gap between the tire and the front mud flaps when the steering is turned that causes issues but can be easily trimmed if needed. At full left or right lock, inspect the tire-mudflap gap and you'll be able to estimate if the increase in tire diameter is going to make contact. Don't forget that the gap closes up a little under suspension compression.

ok here are some pictures today and i took some measurements, not sure if they will help though? the front from ground to the middle of the fender flare is about 33 inches. the rear comes in about an inch higher at 34.

bump for help? and did some googeling and fount the tires on a '02 2WD 4runner. The tires are Goodyear Wrangler Authority.
