Tire size with Daystar and 18" rims

So, I am having a Daystar 2.5/1 lift/leveling kit installed tomorrow on my 2008 Limited. Reading through the sticky threads on suspension / tire sizes, it appears that I could get away with up to a 32" tire.

My question is with these rigs is it the diameter of the tire that causes most of the rubbing issues or the width? Right now I have 265/60/18 which are 30.5" in diameter and 10.7" wide. Is it reasonable that a 255/70/18 (32" x 10.2") would fit or is a 265/65/18 (31.5" x 10.7") going to be a lot safer bet for no rubbing?

It just seems like there are very few bits of info when running the 18" wheels and I can't afford to buy new rims too.

I am currently running 255 70 18s with FJ/Icon coils and 5100s. It took a little bit of trimming to make the tires not rub up front. Nothing substantial though.

265/65/18's will work fine. You might have minimal rubbing on the fender liner but that should be it. Here are some pics of mine with 265/65/18 BFG AT's.

Sounds like the slightly smaller tires may be the way to go to avoid a hassle. Aren't those BFG's load range E? I was hoping to find some in range C, but those appear to be for 17" rims. Load range E is a bit more than I need.

Yep. They were E rated tires and were installed by the previous owner. The tires I have now are essentially the same height (265/70/17) but are not E rated. There is a noticeable difference in acceleration with the lighter tires.

Great, thanks for the info. I'm going to have to give up on BFG AT's and look for something hopefully in C or D range.

This is what it looks like now with Falken AT3's. For the money, these tires have been very good.

255 70 18 fits stock so no problems with a lift. its a great tire size

If the Daystar lifts you more than 2.5 you may get rub on the mud flaps in front due to lack of caster. I have 275/65/18 with a 3/2 lift and I rub the flap at almost full lock with slight compression. I just need a heat gun to soften it up and flatten it a little.

Edit. I also have spacers which will definitely add to the likelihood of rubbing.

I have the same spacer lift. I got 265/65/18 and got slight rubbing on left fender liner.
I finally spent 20min to move it forward. It is quite easy as shown in this link: Toyota 4Runner Wheel Spacers
Drill new holes and adapt liner to use the same screws and clips

Agreed. I have the Cornfed 2/1 lift, and went with 265/70/17 KO2's (equivelent to the diameter of 265/65/18 at 31.6") and I had slight rubbing in reverse while turning on the front fender liners. I moved them forward. I also had a slight rub on the bumper where it tucks into the wheel well, so I broke out the masking tape, and dremel, and made some factory looking cuts.

I have no trouble making some slight modifications or trimming to fit the tires. More curious of if the larger circumference of the 255/70/18 would be MORE prone to rubbing than the 265/65/18 which is a little wider, but not as tall.

I guess the 255's are known as "pizza cutters" because they are so narrow.

For OP, 275/70/18 is more like a 33. The only reason I say this is because I was looking at the exact same tires... Regretting not getting them...

Yeah the Falken's run large, love them. Believe they're 34.4 inches.
