Tire Swap/Purchase (NEED ADVICE)

I have a Limited coming my way later this month and I know that I can't live with the stock tires. I've decided on either the Nitto Terra Grapplers or most likely the Hankook Dynapro ATm Rf10 275/55/R20s (seen on snow&surf's Limited). But I've never swapped out brand new tires...

1. What can I realistic expect from a tire store?
2. Will a shop trade my stock Yoko Geolandars?
3. How much are they worth in a trade?
4. Is there a potential to get seriously screwed?
5. Or is it best just to sell them outright? If so, is anyone gonna want them??

Ideally, I'd like to swap out the tires the same day I pick the 4Runner.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

these are questions that have been on my mind for last 3 months! darn engineers at toyota couldnt make the rims another .5 inches wide for limited!

1. What can I realistic expect from a tire store? Call around and ask."Discount Tire" is the way,and they have them in CO.I googled it,and at least 3 around Denver.

3. How much are they worth in a trade? I got $75 each for mine,but they were a popular 17 inch tire size. The skinny 20's are not that popular a size so maybe $50 a tire but shoot for $75.

Tire swaps are pretty safe.They are a business trying to make money and will make more money off of somebody if they let them I guess.Do your homework on your new tires price before.They will match anybodies shipped price(usually Tirerack is cheapest) online.
5. Or is it best just to sell them outright? If so, is anyone gonna want them?? You might get the same amount on Craigslist.

I've been buying tires from the Discount Tire chain for 20 years.No complaints! They stand behind their work and sell tires at the cheapest price. No brainer for me,they have stores everywhere here.

Yup... actually 4 months. re: your comment... are 275/55/R20s going to present an issue? Please tell me it ain't so... I don't think I could take much more.

Thanks Harper. Bummed about the $$$ - but makes sense wholesale dollars. I'll start making calls this week.

Now the question... what to do about my day job when thoughts of a new 4R clog everything up in my lil' brain... oh yeah... work pays for the vehicle... I GOTTA try and remember that.

skel... read this post and then a couple after them... i'm still a bit confused as well... don't want to make an $800+ mistake.

For those of us less knowledgeable (me), have we ever defined what tire sizes will fit w/o any skepticism in regards to safety on the stock 20" Limited wheels?

My 4R will be a daily driver and while I heard the Geolandars have done well in the snow, I am interested in additional other options for seasonal winter tires. Knowing the range of sizes will help in the search. Thanks!

I knew I didn't like the stock tires so I started asking the dealers before purchase. None in my area would help with the trade. After purchase I asked 3 tire stores, and got quotes from $75 - $100 per tire (each place I had to talk to the manager). Most said they would have to have under 600 miles on them to take them in trade. I offroaded my Bridgestone h/t's, didn't wash it and brought it in to the tire shop with 400+ miles and got $100 per tire. Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor.

I assume the less popular 20" geolandars won't be so valuable. But I'll try.

My dealer is swapping the tires on mine when it gets in, I just have to pay the difference. I figure they will only have 2 miles on them so they should be able to sell them as like new.

Two other dealers kept telling me they would look into it and never committed, so just push them till they will do it for you.
