Tires and wheels

I searched and get very confused. I have a 1988 SR5 4Runner completely stock. Can anyone tell me the largest wheel and tire combination that will fit on this truck without any rubbing? I see lots of Runners with tires sticking out past the wheel wells and are the tires just wider or do the wheels have to be changed also?

The stock rims are 15x7. Stock tire size is 31x10.5x15. You can probably get 32x11.5x15 in there, but it would be tight. 33's fit with some mild cutting in the wheel well.

the wheels you see sticking out on other runners either have deeper backspacing in hub spacers.

Depends I fit 15x10s with 33x12.5 with no rub on the street only of course
All depends on wat your using the vehicle for..I "think" u can get away with stock rims and 33x10.5 and go trail riding on stock suspension

I'm running 33 12.5 15 on the stock Toyota rims no rubbing while normal.street driving but hit a hard bump and a certain spot it rubbs a little on the front part of the bumper

yeah, i think the stock tire size for a first gen is something like a 28" tall tire.

i currently am running a 265/70/16, approx. 30", tire with no problems on stock suspension.

31s will fit on a 1st gen stock without rubbing.

yes!!!

i bought the wifee new BFSs in 265/75/16s.

i then bought 16" black steelies for me and had her old tires, 265/70/16s mounted to the wheels and then installed on 'Ole Bob.
