Tires for California drivin

I also live in Southern California, with the exact same criteria (90% street and 10% trails/Big Bear).

I own a 2016 SR5 Premium 4X4. Installed a King coilover in the front at 1.5" lift. Installed King shocks in the rear with NO rear lift. I am running the TRD 17X7 rims and 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's. My opinion is that I achieved a nice rugged look and the tires do not look too small. No loss of MPG, the tires are as quiet as one could ask for and they wear well, currently have 14,000 miles on them and they haven't lost any tread. If I had to do this again, I'd do it exactly the same way.

Your setup sounds like exactly what I want to do. 90% DD and 10% Mtn, dunes, trails. Considering King or Fox for the front since they are progressive and won't be too stiff with KDSS but stiffer than stock for the whoops.

Yeah agreed! Do you know of any reputable 275s that are C rated? It seems the standard 275s everyone goes with are the BFG k02s but E rated.

Does anyone have a picture of the nitto grappler 265/70/17 on a 5th gen with 2-3 inch lift? I know the TRD Pros run grapplers but they aren't lifted I don't believe (correct me if I'm wrong) Thanks in advance!

Nitto and Cooper for 275s in C or P. TRD Pros are lifted 1.75 up front only i believe.

I also wrestled with the idea of going bigger with tires but at the end of the day decided that the hit to MPG's wouldn't be worth it.

I'm running stock size P-rated Cooper AT3's and so far so good. They've gotten me up and down everything I've thrown at them. They're a bit louder than stock and only noticed a slight decrease in mpg's. Work really well in heavy rain and the reviews say they do well in snow but I've yet to test them in the white stuff. Best thing about these was that I got them for 110 bucks a piece off of Amazon. Took them to a tire shop and had them installed for 100. Sold my stock tires for 400. Got a great tire upgrade for $140 all in.

Do they look a little bit small? Yeah sure... but really, as long as they function well who cares? When these finally wear out I may entertain the idea of going to a 275 tire.

What mpg are you getting with your setup Spudgey? I am guessing I would take another 1 or 2 mpg if I lift it. Another thing I noticed is my max range on fill up is 291 (It was 310 from the dealership)

On a recent trip up to the mountains I averaged about 18.5 mpg. This was a mix of highway and off-roading. Pure highway driving at 70mph I'm probably around 19-19.5.

My traffic laden, 20 mile round trip, city commute nets me closer to 17.5.

Prior to the lift and tires highway mileage was closer to 21. City driving hasn't changed my mpgs much though.
