Hi There, Did you end up going with the 265-75-16 Wrangler Goodyear Duratracs at a C or E load rating? What's your opinion about either? Thanks much. Daniel

congrats on the 3 year old thread revival.... well at least your using the search feature on here... id probably stick with the C rated unless you plan on doing a lot of towing....

I would be scared to air them down as the tread can separate from the carcass when doing it, plus sidewall strength would be extremely marginal on these unless you get the matching carcass of say an MTR or similar.

It even says in the FAQ section on that site that airing them down voids any warranty at all.

FWIW, I just bought a set of Hankook Dynapro A/Ts for $99/ea. I have read great reviews on them in the snow/ice. Mine went on a new to me 93' 4runner. I have also had great results with the Yokohama Geolander AT/S as well, but liked the extra siping on the Hankook for a DD in Colorado.

Discount Tire matched the price in store. But after tax. mount, balance, etc it was $540 out the door for all four with the warranty and lifetime balance/rotation.

There is no reason to be scared to run treadwrights. Its all I run, my wife, and about 3 of my buddys run. I have driven on them for 2000 mile trips. Im on my third set. The tire walls are inspected three times which is more than a new tire, sometimes new tires will sit for years before they get sold meaning they could have dry rott and you dont even know it.

Air down tires will void any warranty. If you go to discount and tell them my tire blew up when down airing they will say your voided warranty because your not using the correct tire pressure. I have down aired too 10psi on my treadwrights more times than I can count and never had one issue.

4x4 magazine did a test on there tires and they air them down and tore them up with no issues. They also tested there kedgegrip tires that have glass and walnut particles for extra traction. They where able to get almost 4 car lenghs further on a ice sheet on a hill that they where testing on.

IMO treadwright are better or just as good as any new tire and they have the rep to back it up. Research and you will find maybe one guy with a treadwright that failed and that was due to him driving it way past its recommended mileage.

unless you're towing, their is no need for E load tires, the E's do handle on tarmac better (if you're going too fast) but other than that, all they do is make your ride quality feel like you're going over rail-road tracks all the time.
