Titan high capacity fuel tanks

One of my biggest pet peeves about the 5th gen 4Runner, is the fuel capacity of the gas tank. I would like to get more of a range from a full tank of gas. We all know that the 4Runner is not the most efficient suv out there. I usually get on average 350 miles to a tank. I recently contacted Titan fuel tanks and suggested that if they would produce a high capacity fuel tank, the community would respond in high numbers. They said that if they received enough interest, they would produce a higher capacity fuel tank. They currently produce fuel tanks for many heavy duty trucks that double the capacity of the tank.

I for one would be down for a larger tank provided that it won't explode if some jack a$$ on the highway decides to play bumper cars.

Might like to check that out. generally 350 is good enough (A lot more than early gens!) but when pulling a trailer or going on a long back country trip, having a 30-35 gallon tank would rock

@cf machete this is just the begging of the process. They said they would consider developing a new fuel tank, as long as there is enough interest. We as the community need to make it happen. They are well known for making safe and larger fuel tanks. They test them and even have a spare tire tank for some trucks. I would be scared to run a spare tire tank, but they are confident that it is safe. They also just started to give a lifetime warranty for their tanks. I emailed them the link to this topic, so maybe they can chime in. Thanks for generating interest guys.

A ball park estimate on cost would be the tipping point for me.....I don't remember the last time I filled up my truck and got a Range reading above 300

I've installed a few different Titan tanks. Those things are 3 things, Big , heavy and strong. They are no joke , skid plats wont be needed, and the stock one would likely not fit way. While a great upgrade there would be a few things i would be concerned about. How low will the tank hang? ground clearance is already an issue for the off road crowd the gas tank skid is usually the second most beat up skid due to the break over angles. How much bigger can they make it? Since they are made "more square" they can hold more even with the same dims. as stock but usually they push it our an inch or 2 in most directions on the truck tanks I've installed. Then you also might possibly have to compensate your suspension as it will further exaggerate the drivers side lean.

An auxiliary spare tire tank honestly is the best solution. Most of the guys with lifted trucks cant fit a correct sized spare tire there any way. It can be tucked up pretty high and be able to provide 60-70 percent more fuel. The only issues would be then having to add a switching system or a transfer pump system. You may have evap emissions system issues. And lastly Where would you put the filler neck?


All that aside, having a huge gas tank ROCKS. i dont know how big the tank in my '14 ram 1500 is but i usually get around 400 miles to a tank, getting between 17-20 mpg. Not too bad for a lifted truck with a 400hp v8.

I sure miss the 40gal tank that was on my Suburban. There is a great sense of security knowing I have lots of fuel on board when driving in the back country. I'd be very interested!

Based on their current pricing for American pickups, I'd expect the cost to be somewhere around $1650 shipped for a 1.5-2x capacity tank. I can see how that works for a commercial fleet application (mining company trucks driving to job sites in the middle of nowhere), but don't see it happening for a very small percentage of the 4runner crowd. Never hurts to ask.

any who... an aux tank in the location of the current spare would be da bomb! For that I would gladly mount my spare outside on one of the CBI bumpers like the cool kids have! :thumb:
