11/09/12 - TB Cleaning Complete

I've also been having issues with my engine mis-firing so I spent some time dismantling the TB / IAC. Took me a few days because I had to keep on going out for tools / parts / cleaning supplies. Glad I have more than one car though or else it'd be such a pain. I had to also replace the IAC screws since in removing them, one started to strip and I started to make them into flat heads. That did not pan out because it still did not work and I ended up getting lucky using a pair of pliers to turn them. I replaced them with some allan head screws + lock washers.

My assumption that this has never been cleaned and unfortunate that I have been driving like this for 25k miles since I bought her in 2010. She seems to drive quite a bit smoother now. I also replaced the PCV valve as well. I still need to clean the MAF again and maybe service the injectors. So far so good though. I still don't want to drive her around with the half finished tailgate and all.

2016 June Update

It's about time I posted in this thread again. It's been a while because I've been busy doing some travels on most of my free time so I don't have much time to dedicate to my FD and 4Runner like I did several years ago. I'm actually putting two of my cars up for sale and have been daily driving my 4Runner.

I'll have some updated pictures next month but for now it'll be a text only update. I actually went back to the stock tailgate a while back because I didn't have the time to breakdown both tailgates to swap the wiring harness and glass. First thing up will actually be new tires / wheels and new front brakes. Going aftermarket on both wheels and brakes. Time to ditch those old steelies. After that will be a new clutch, most likely an LCE pro kit for the 3rz. Just some light maintenance.

Just have to figure which tires I want to get. Between Michelin LT M/S or Nitto Terra Grappler G2. I don't really wheel too much so I ruled out some of the other options out there. I guess we'll see next week what I end up with if the price is right.

are you gonna paint the interior like you did with the red 4Runner?
I do have plans for the interior down the line. I have a spare interior in storage that's non-blue gray from an 02' 4Runner. This time around I plan on replacing the carpet entirely instead of dying it. My stock carpet is in pretty bad shape. That'll probably be a project for 2017. For now I'll be working on updating the maintenance.

Tires are on order. Hopefully will have the new shoes on later this week. I had the wheels sent off for some ceramo pro strong coating yesterday. Here's teaser shot.

7/6/16 - tires are in...partially

I was only able to mount two of the tires today since one of my wheels is off for repairs. I needed two of them mounted so I can install the new brakes. I went with the "longhorn" side of the grappler G2s.

7/26/16 - BBK & new shoes

So I finally got in the correct ss brake lines with the proper banjo fittings. I ended up opening both ss lines when I only needed the one for the bbk itself. Replaces both the stock rubber line and hardline in one seamless connection. Here's all the parts pre-assembly.

Assembly of the rotors. This one I actually assembled it incorrectly. The next picture actually shows how its really supposed to be. Thats what I get for not looking through all the instructions.

Comparison of the new rotors to the stock rotors.

Stock setup. It's really not a bad setup especially since the stock calipers are pretty decent. The dealer that I bought my car from 6 years ago put in some pads that released the wear tab with more than 50% of the pad life left on them. That was the only reason I decided to even install the BBK in the first place.

Final assembly. I did clean off all the fingerprints before installing the wheels too.

Spent about four hours total including bleed time. Most of it was spent assembling the rotors and cutting off the dust shields. The bleeding process was not too painful. The new calipers had tons of microbubbles that kept coming out. Once those were gone I was good. More pics to come.

I'll take some proper pictures when I'm off my work week but I took a few on the way home from my friend's place. I sort of wished I went with 285s but the 265s will be more drivable for the foreseeable future since I don't plan on power adders / drivetrain upgrades until after I get a house. I just really wanted to update the maintenance.

The 4runner is coming a long very nicely. Are you located in Houston or Dallas?

Houston actually. I dont know why I have it written like that. I used to go up there alot so maybe thats why hehe.

Next on the list will be new clutch. Maybe the URD short shifter. I also need some new door seals on the driver side and new interior carpet. Oh yes, I needed to get some new ET tuner lugs because the front studs aren't long enough to give enough thread for the new wheels. Really just small potatoes compared to what folks do on their build threads. So now I need to step up my game like the other 3rz build threads I see around here.

Also at the same time my RS4 came home from the shop the following day.

I still daily drive the IS250 though.

It's been a while since my last update. Since the last update, I sold my RS4 back in March 2017 to pay off a few things and then I closed on a house at the end of June. So now I finally have a house of my own with a 3 car garage to boot.

Then got back into my fish keeping hobby and slowly organized the garage. I'm still working on it though. It'll be a long term work in progress as I organize and start to sell off extra car parts for the 3rd gen, FD, and a few other cars I don't have anymore.

And I started thinking what I wanted to replace the long gone RS4 with. I am also in the process of selling the FD since I have less and less time to tinker with it and would rather tinker on a more classic car if I decide to have a car to tinker on. I'm still debating between a BRZ and GT350, two completely different cars but there are reasons for me to go with either one. In the mean time I wanted a more capable daily rig that could potentially tow and would have a few comforts my 3rd gen was lacking. Road trips are not as comfortable in the 3rd gen, its much louder with the new clutch, currently has no carpet, and only the front seats bolted in. I can't pin point the driver side leak either, might just need a new outer door seal or a completely new door. The driver seat belt also started to lock up randomly too, so sometimes I won't be able to drive it because I can't pull it off the B-pillar. I ended up pulling the trigger on this rig last month because I saw it for a rock bottom price and thought I had nothing to really lose to try it out.

2007 V8 4WD with 142k on the clock. Higher mileage than I would want to start with but after driving her 1500 miles back to Texas from Pennsylvania, I couldn't tell that there was 142k save for the brakes being slightly spongy.

At this point, I might take the 3rd gen build in a different direction. I might end up single turbo and just making it my daily beater to go back and forth to work in. Make the new rig my off-road / pavement pounder build. I thought I was going to sell the 3rd gen but after driving her to work tonight, I don't think I could let her go. Both cars drive and handle completely different from each other and even with a part out, I don't think the 3rd gen would net enough to make it worth selling.

what BBK was that? I didn't realize stoptech had bolt on calipers, looks awesome.

StopTech 83.856.4700.82 ST-40 Big Brake Kit

If I didn't get them as a packaged deal with the TE37s I would have just opted for the Tundra swap. I ended up probably spending more on new rotor rings to get these on the truck than a Tundra swap, not including the price I paid for the brake / wheel combo in the first place. With that said, stopping power is great, almost sports car like haha.

12/23/18 - New Carpet Finally

I finally removed the interior for a deep clean and install of replacement carpet. A few years ago I removed the stock carpet because the driver side liner was leaking water and overtime pretty much ruined the carpet.

I cleaned most of the hard plastics. Still have to cut the carpet to fit and I’ll be doing it mostly blind because I didn’t keep the old carpet as a template.

I also pulled this set of Recaros out of storage [emoji38]

I also washed the new daily and made a 2 minute sped up video. You can see my 4th and 3rd gen in the video haha.
